Cinnamon Girl Lyrics

Cinnamon in my teeth
From your kiss
You're touching me
All the pills that you did
Violet, blue, green, red to keep me
At arm's length don't work
You try to push me out
But I just find my way back in
Violet, blue, green, red to keep me...

Cinnamon girl is just a cry for love. ("But if you hold me without hurting me, you'd be the first who ever did")
Lana seems to sing this song to any potential future lover of hers. Taking into account some of her abusive relationships in the past, the lyrics make so much sense. Cinnamon is bittersweet and symbolizes the aftertaste of a toxic relationship (Bitter= abuse/ Sweet= the romanticizing procedure the abused person does in their own head not realizing the danger they are in). The chorus beat mimics the waves of the ocean to emphasize the sombre mood of being mistreated.

In my opinion, Lana is having conflicted feelings about an abusive relationship she is in. “If you hold me without hurting me/ you’ll be the first who ever did” suggests domestic violence/abuse as-well as the lyrics “Hold me, touch me, love me honey/be the first who ever did” She is begging her significant other to perform caring actions towards her.

However i also think there is a reference of drug use when the lyrics say “all the pills that you take/ violet, blue, green, red to keep me out/ i win”

The whole song has more of a story mood than anything, it feels as if Lana is telling you a story about a relationship she is/was in. The instrumentals emulate the sound of waves/thunder storm/ocean which captures the somber and melancholic mood of the song.

Lana is dating a guy who is suicidal and she is terrified to say the wrong thing to him, in case he decides to try to OD, "all th pills, that you take, violet blue green red" She is trying to savor her moments with him, because she knows they don't have much time left because of his suicidal tendencies.
