I feel this song is about a woman who has fallen in love and has once again been hurt. "you cut me open and I keep bleeding love" This line represents that she has been hurt so much by this man that she has resulted in cutting herself or suicide and her love for him is bleeding out of her, however she still loves him so deeply that it is taking over her and people are telling her to be careful. She loves him so much that she ,in a way, doesn't care about the pain.

Maybe he can't be with just her, maybe he can not give up his habits of needing attention from every women. The singer is blinded by his love, emotion and affection. She wants to follow her heart but everyone is trying to keep her away from him. She doesn't care. They get back together, but then she is not happy because he treats her poorly yet she cant leave him because she thinks they are ment to be.

This song to me is about trying so hard to close off the way you feel. Listening to what everyone thinks is the right thing to do and not following your own heart. Its about shutting your heart down and how badly hurts it can be a crippling feeling. Never close the heart to love it may be the only chance you get at real love. The heart knows what the heart wants.

Here, she is overlooking all of the warnings that are given to her because no one know how he makes her feel. All this time, she had closed her heart it only worsened her condition and her heart became crippled because her world became bleak without love. The guy comes and cuts her heart open and then cuts the vein, which has been acting as a shield to protect her heart. After cutting the heart open, she is now free to love. But when you cut things it always leaves a scar.
