Linkin Park: What I've Done Meaning

Album cover for What I've Done album cover

Song Released: 2007

What I've Done Lyrics

In this farewell,
There’s no blood,
There’s no alibi.
‘Cause I’ve drawn regret,
From the truth,
Of a thousand lies.

So let mercy come,
And wash away…

What I’ve Done.
I’ll face myself,
To cross out what I’ve become.
Erase...

I think this song is about forgetting all of the bad things you've done in your life, and then starting over. But that`s just what it means to me. Linkin park songs are mostly made to make sense to different people for different reasons.

Chester Bennington, the main singer of Linkin Park took drugs in his teenage years so he is asking god to forgive what he has done.

To me, the meaning of the song is someone who cannot forgive themselves and finally in here forgives themselves. In the music video, it also illustrates societies faults like pollution and war.

It about forgetting what you have done in the past, to the environment or to others, you want everyone to forgive you and you want everyone to fix what they have done

to me, this song means faluts in the world and society in the past and even present. if people could only take back what they've done.

My personal opinion of this song is that it's about a boy who was in love with a girl. He made some mistakes and she started to reject him. He is pleading for her to forgive him and come back. He's forgiven himself for his past wrongs and wants her to forgive him as well. I may be totally off the mark here, but that's how I first interpretated it, so I'm putting it out there.

This song seems to be starting again, going back and doing over what we've messed up.

The video for this shows some of humanities greatest atrocities. That we should start over, begin a new and move on to never repeat these things.

At the end of the first transformers movie this song is played. Perhaps indicating that that auto bots are starting over with another people. That they may have comited many wrongs in their past, but now will help others to stay right.

I think the song is about doing things wrong, messing up,hurting people you love eventually everything builds up and you need mercy to wash away what you've done
    In this farewell
    There’s no blood
    There’s no alibi
    ‘Cause I’ve drawn regret
    From the truth
    Of a thousand lies

-you think your not good enough to be with these ppeople you say good bye regretting the lies and the mistakes

    I'll face myself
To cross out what i’ve become
    Erase myself
And let go of what i’ve done
    Put to rest
    What you thought of me
    While I clean this slate
    With the hands of uncertainty
you need to let goof everything, put it behind you,and ask people to forgive you while you try to improve, uncertian if you can

    For what I’ve done
    I start again
    And whatever pain may come
    Today this ends
    I’m forgiving what I’ve done!

then you start again and forgive yourself, your finished with the same lies, same mistakes

The lead singer has his own interpretation, and the drummer has his. All of ours was completely different, but yes, you're supposed to see it the way you would like to see it as...assholes.

just because it has apparant religious references (that are in common use) doesnt mean it has religious overtones. i personally believe this song is simply asking for mercy for what we as a species have done to the planet, in that we've completely ruined it, with global warming, toxic waste flooding the seas etc. this is highlighted by the video, showing some of the worse moments in the history of humanity

Lots of religious symbolism in this song.

Here are some words and phrases base in Christianity:

    blood
    mercy
    wash away (baptism)
    cross
    clean the slate (salvation)
    start again (born again)

    FORGIVING WHAT I'VE DONE (forgiveness)

You cannot tell me that this song is not based in Christianity.

I think this song is talking about how someone wronged their friend and their friend keeps forgiving them but this time its the last straw and the person is asking the friend to believe him that he has changed and "faced myself, to cross out what i've become". He has changed and has found mercy. I know this isn't a Christian song, but I think he may be referencing to letting go of the past and finding mercy with Jesus.I think that everyone has their own interpretation, but the basic meaning is finding mercy and forgiveness.

It's about a person who ruins his life and it gets so bad he wants to kill himself (hence "in this farewell there's no blood) so he wants god to give him another chance to start over again
what is with you bitches thinking this is about the environment
    u are FAGS!
