Brandy (You're a Fine Girl) Lyrics

(dooda-dit-dooda), (dit-dooda-dit-dooda)

There's a port on a western bay
And it serves a hundred ships a day
Lonely sailors pass the time away
And talk about their homes

And there's a girl in this harbor town
And she works layin'...

After I read some of these interpretations, I realize how many more idiots actually live in this world.

The song is about a sleazy sailor who scores a barmaid with a one-night stand... He *came* to the port already bearing gifts, meaning, he'd never met her before; and indeed, the gift was a locket with *his* name on it, not hers!! Who gives a locket with their *own* name, unless they are walking around with a pocket full of them to try to score whatever woman he meets! And poor Brandy, somehow she buys the line that he "loves the sea" more than he could possibly love her... I wonder how many girls in how many ports have heard that line from him.

In life a person will experience a lot of things , even love and friendship . However , every person has a higher purpose , a meaning in life , that he must fulfill and sometimes this purpose recquires that we sacrifice some things in order to fulfill it . The sailor's life purpose was being a sailor and living in the sea . This was the meaning of his whole life . However , he once fell in love with a barmaid in a port on a western bay .But He had to abandon her because he could not live with her . If he lived with her he would never fulfill his purpose which was living in the sea . His purpose was more important than his love for her and so he made a choice to abandon her and continue his journey and his purpose .

Life is filled with some who love you more that you love them.... and others you love and they don't love you enough... The other sailors love her and would do anything even give up the sea to be with her... but the one she loves.. does not love her ... enough.

It's about a summer fling. Brandy is a young woman who fell for a particular sailor and they probably had a one night stand.
The sailor brought gifts from far away lands to woo her and He "always told the truth" and "made it clear" that nothing could come of anything and Brandy "does her best to understand"
That's why Brandy closes the bar down and "walks through a silent town" feeling lonely and sad because she fell for him and is having a hard time getting over it. "She still can hear him say Brandy, you're a fine girl..."

Its about a sailor that falls in love with a girl on a western port but, if having to choose between his love for her or his love for the sea, he chooses the sea. The lyrics are a voyage for the mind

This song is about a dog that loyally waits in a harbor town for her master (a sailor) to return. When he comes into town she's allowed to enter the bar with him, remaining at his side while he tells "big fish" stories and only leaves him to "fetch" his round. The braided chain is a dog collar with a dog tag (locket) that bears the name of her master. Even while the sailor is at sea, Brandy returns to the bar in the hopes that the sailor will be there, then when bar closes without her master returning she goes back to walking the streets of a silent town...Brandy would make a fine wife...if she were a woman.

I think it is saying that the sailor died at sea, considering the lyrics state "from a man that Brandy loved". Also, she walks the streets at night alone and remembers what he used to say...

A pretty straightforward song, and a particular favorite of mine. It's about a waitress at a bar who's in love with a sailor, who loves her back but can't really leave the sea.

aAsong about a waitress in a port bar who serves beer for the sailors--and how they all say what a great wife she would be, and how a traveling sailor drops by every now and then from far away. Now, here's the thing, she loves him and vise-versa; but his "life, his lover, and his lady" is the sea
