400 Lux Lyrics

[Verse 1]
We're never done with killing time
Can I kill it with you?
'Til my veins run red and blue
We come around here all the time
Got a lot to not do
Let me kill it with you

[Pre-chorus:]
You pick me up and take me home again
Head...

In the first verse, she and this guy have nothing better to do, so they are just hanging out until they can find something to do. They go to the same hangout spot all the time and have nothing to do, but just chill.

He picks her up and drops her off, but she's sneaking out the window. They are vain and shallow like the bottles they drink after they're empty. He drives with his wrists draped over the steering wheel. They're so nervous that they're heartbeats can take over the car. They may be vain, but they're brave.

In the chorus, she is thinking "And I like you" in the back of her mind, but is saying other things out loud. She likes the roads where all the houses look the same. Where they can talk like have something important that they needed to say. She's glad that they are driving normally again, and not "burning rubber". The streets that they drive through are lined with trees. She wants him to stay.

In the second verse, it's cold and they have on long sleeves. The guy she's with turns the heat in the car. He buys her orange juice. She's inside the house brushing her teeth. She can see that he's tired, but he keeps the car warm and running while he's waiting outside her house.

The monkey on your back. The jones. These are songs about the neat little stimulus-reward short circuit designed into the human brain and how it can combine with any vaguely pleasant sensation to form a constant destructive cycle. Addiction is a subject that comes up a lot in music, as the rock star lifestyle both encourages substance abuse and doesn't leave a lot of room for wholesome pastimes like mountain climbing instead.

Kissing the tar is doing heroine, so she's glad they stopped why they were on the highway.

that's an excellent interpretation, however, u missed a few things, 400 lux- the title means 4 am. lux being an old term for light, and 400 being military time, maybe this all happened at 4 am or maybe she wrote it at 4 am. I don't know but lux is a unit of illuminance. it probably has something to do with that, but i dont know. u also missed that you buy me orange juice was him at a gas station tossing it to her out of nowhere, thats a big deal because it means that they knew eachother pretty well for him to know her favourite drink. And the obvious reference to white teen teens when she says dreams of clean teeth
