#1 top rated interpretation:"I remember when your head caught flame" is from when she accidentally set her friend's hair on fire in a Chemistry experiment but he laughed it off and wasn't mad. The song is about summer (which she has said), It's about the feeling of summer vacation, when you fall out of routine and have all that freedom it's like you're living in a haze, everything is good and you want to stay out all day. "And I'll never go home again." She doesn't want this peaceful time to end, but she knows that it will, she's only blocking it out of her mind. I like it because even though it's a song about summer it's not about surfing and bikinis, It's about the end of school feeling that anyone still in school understands on a deep level. Summer has a different way of life that's for sure, your life moves to a totally different beat and everything feels strange and good.

#2 top rated interpretation:i think its more of a surreal song maybe? like its saying how shes having fun with her friends in the summer like some other people said but then she also sees whats going on on the news/tv , but she tries to push it away and live the “reckless teenager years”? so its like she lives in a hologram with her friend because none of it seems real. if that makes sense haha

#3 top rated interpretation:I like to think that this song is about daydreaming to escape reality and wishing that your daydreams where real. “Explosions on tv and all the girls with heads inside a dream so now we live beside the pool where everything is good” as in the reality is so harsh so you daydream as an escapism and you wished you could stay there forever “I’ll never go home again” but deep down you know that the daydreams are only dreams and you can’t stay there forever “where nothing’s wrong but nothing is true, I live in a hologram with you” I probably took it this way since can really relate to that I guess. I’m still gonna take the song in that way since I think it’s nice to have a song that says what your thinking

This is personal but it’s what it feels like to be chronically ill, getting a first diagnosis. “I remember when your head caught flame,” chronic pain, “they kissed your scalp and caressed your brain,” being soothed but not being able to get treatment.
“You laughed baby, ‘it’s okay, it’s buzz it season anyway,” making the people around you feel better because they can’t do anything/you don’t want them to feel bad.
Cutting your hair to free yourself because you’re too sick to take care of it, daydreaming to escape reality, hearing about world news but not being physically able to do anything so you can only ignore it.

I really felt the lyrics as something big thats happening around the world but the narrator doesn't seem concerned about it even thou it affects them in some aspect of their lives but because they have a good life and they have everything they decide to not take action or follow the news about said situation and that thought is confirmed by the line "Explosions on tv and all the girls whit heads inside a dream, so now we live beside the pool were everything is good" confirming something is happening but they´re too busy living a rich life to even care

A story of lover's who escape from their homes during the Buzzcut season (or season where break up is frequently happening). The narrator (woman) might be the one who is famous, and the other one (man) might be from current relationship but whom he ran away with the narrator, and they don't care to anyone and anything. They ride on bus and play some music they like. They wish not to go home anymore. They become headlines to the TVs,and the men (who might be suitors of the woman) are saying that their relationship (whom she escaped with) will not last long, but the narrator believe everything will be okay and good just what she has imagine for this risk.

Buzzcut Season is my favorite song and Lorde always creates amazing songs and I love them all but for some reason this song makes me feel safe and happy. when I first heard this song I wondered what "and nothings wrong but nothings true" meant but after listening to this song for 5 or 6 years I think I finally have an idea of what it means. it means that what everyone says is never fully true but also is never a lie. yes, people may lie sometimes but some of it is true and when people say the truth some little part of it is wrong. - unknown

I think this is about how she used to think that everything was good and fine but in this song she's watching the explosions on tv and that's her reality. She also talks about girls who don't realise the atrocities that happen in real life.

I think that 'I remember when your head caught flame' means she is watching someone struggle with an unfortunate point in their life and that they try to block the world out and live in their own reality where everything is happy and they never want to leave because ' it is so easy in this blue' and they basically live in a hologram together. The ' explosions on tv' are bad things and the ' girls with heads inside their dreams' are people who are trying to block it all out. So, this song actually has a very deep meaning.

I thought this song was referring to "buzzcut season" as army draft, so all the boys have to get buzzcuts at a certain time. The explosions on TV refers to the girlfriends and mothers watching the war news and pretending everything is okay?

in an interview she actually explained that one of her mal friend's head caught flames wen they were performing experiments in a chemistry lab...so i think some of u are overthinking it... buzzcut season is clearly about summer n how she doesn't want her vacations to end (i'll never go home again) she doesn't want it to end.. (we ride d bus with our knees pulled in) juz explaining d kindda lifestyle they have n wat its like having little money... (i live in hologram with u) she fantasies about perfect life n pretends she is satisfied with her life...its juz wat i think about d song... i could be wrong. ..

This song has a very deep meaning to it. When she says "I remember when your head cought flame" is when her boyfriend was really stressed about his girlfriend and she tries to calm him down and make him relax by showing him affection like kissing but when she kissed him she corressed his brain. Like brushing up against someone's cut, it hurts an makes it worse. "It's buzzcut season anyway" is her trying to encourage him that maybe all this pain isn't worth it. Now that he is single, "explosions on TV and all the girls with heads inside a dream" is all the girls wanting to date him, that start crying when they are rejected by him and the girls that think they will have a perfect dreamy life together. He ends up dating Lorde and "now they live beside the pool where everything is good" "we ride the bus with the knees pulled in" is them trying to keep their relationship a secret. shut my eyes through the song that played" is her trying to block out all the girls asking and asking if they are a couple. "The men upon the news, they try to tell us all that we will lose" is people warning her that her boyfriend isn't a good guy. "But it's so easy in this blue where very thing is good" is her fighting back, and saying that they are perfect for eachother and they are happy. "And I'll never go home again" is where she finds out that he was cheating on her. "Place the call, feel it start," was where she calls him and confronts him about the whole thing. "Favorite friends, nothings wrong with nothing's true" is her thanking her friends for warning her, and also apologizing about not listening to them. "I lived in a hologram with you" was her thinking back on all the perfect and happy times they had together. "I'm the one you told your fears to, they'll never be enough of us" is her being sad about her boyfriend cheating and saying that she will never find anyone like him.
