#1 top rated interpretation:wilbur has stated at two of his live gigs with lovejoy that cause for concern is about a plane crash. therefore, i think that it is about the people on a plane basically beating the shit out of each other and making out with each other because nothing matters since they're all about to die in a plane crash. "you can do whatever you want to me, im not concerned because im going to die no matter what."

The girl can do almost anything to hurt Wilbur physically, but because of how society currently stands, if wilbur were to complain about it to anyone, people would shrug it off. #3 top rated interpretation:So essentially my interpretation comes from the line “we will eat the foam from the head rests”. Basically the song is about Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, in which a group of people, notably the Uruguayan rugby team and their supporters, crashed into a mountain range and had to survive for 10 days in the Andes with limited food.
Essentially what happened was after going through the initial food they began eating the plane, such as the foam from the head rests and eventually partook in voluntary cannibalism to stay alive. Hence the cause for concern, of someone killing and eating the other such as kicking the teeth into their head or hurting eachother for food. -
My interpretation is that Wilbur after finding out about this relationship between his former lover (I’ll call her Sara) and this guy (mike) who is, as stated in the song “sex sells” a Tory, apart of the British Conservative Party, he’s explaining that he has no concern because he knows she’s only dating him because of his money and power despite him being extremely apathetic towards her, which I picked up from lovejoys song “model buses” because of the line “ he’s always right you're never right, get me out of here” I also think that when will finds out about the arrangement between the Sara and mike will knows that he has loads of power and tries the distort money out of him and takes this opportunity as a way to benefit himself. That’s why he simply doesn’t care about the arrangement. I also think this has to do with the first lyric “you’re down another eight ball and you haven’t even got a cue” (a cue is the device used in eight ball which you use to hit the pole balls) I think this is a metaphor in which he’s lost some sort of power or money from will but he hasn’t noticed yet. I also think saying “you can kick the teeth into my head” and “you can knock the wind out of my breath” means mike could do anything to will, but all he cares about is if he call still use this situation for his own personal gain. My interpretation of this song is that the singer has a background of physical abuse,and that they perceive being hurt as "a sign of love or an act of affection." The lyrics probably describe what the singer has been through, the eating of foam, being knocked out of breath, you get the idea. They likely reminisce upon this memories from time to time as they seem very miserable.

The lyrics above are repeated throughout the song until the very last part where the singer actually says "We ain't gonna hurt you."it themselves. This implies the person the singer was (spitefully) talking to themselves for the first half of the song. Now, I'm stumped on the last half but my take is that they found someone who loves them, hence as to why the lyrics are less violent from the previous one.
At this point on, they're talking to the person that they love, or are in a relationship with. The lyrics have changed completely.
"We could eat the foam from the headrest,
You could suck the wind out of my breath,
You can kiss the teeth into my head."
They still have that toxic perception of being hurt as a form of affection but one can notice that it's been toned down a notch. I'm sure it's obvious that lyrics seem to be almost sung lovingly but that could just be me. Again, this is just my interpretation though. I could be completely wrong. I just want to say that it says »Chance«, not »Charles«. And I agree with the theory of the-toxic-relationship. Maybe he loves »you« (the partner) too much. Because of this, he's »ok« with the wrong behaviour-»there's no cause for concern« because he'll love them anyway.

It sounds to me as if its about a toxic relationship where the other partner had a drug addiction, specifically to cocaine. When it refers to "your down another 8-ball" it can be used as another term for cocaine and shows that the partner is taking the drug once again. Due to the affects of the drug, it causes the partner to act out with violence. When it states "When you jump to what you'll resort to" it refers to them acting in abusive manner. It seems that the partner wants help in their addiction but struggles. When it says "You look so dreadful" it refers to the partner being unhappy about their abusive acts but doesn't know how to get help . On the other hand in Wilbur's pov, he loves and cares the other so much even though he gets mistreated. When Wilbur says "There's no cause for concern" it's like he is trying to excuse the partners abusive actions and saying it everything is fine between the two. When it says "Charles, we ain't gonna hurt you" is like his partner promising him that they will stop their abusive actions but breaks the promise every time.

I love this song, but Im kinda unsure of the meaning... so part of me agrees with the 'abusive partner' theory but i think it can be about a couple, in which the guy's (wilburs pov) friend told him that this significant other is not good for him. in this version, the course would be about how he ignors the red flags. the 'we aint gonna hurt you' and 'Charles, we aint gonna hurt you' parts are about his previous relationships and the current one, as all of them told him they're nit gonna hurt him but he always got his heart broken.

I'm not sure if anyone will agree but to me it sounds like it's about a problem of being bullied. Specifically because of the line (Singing, "Charles, we ain't gonna hurt you.") Which to me sounds like more than one person saying in a mocking way that they're definitely not gonna hurt whoever Charles is in the song

I thinks its about a couple and the husband keeps on getting abused by her wife, but nobody cares or believes it. He eventually gets used to the abuse and starts considering it as a routine.

I might be wrong but I think its about a girl who suffered trauma and the girl is scared to hurt him and he is saying that she won't. Idk im bad at explaining things
