Holy Wood (In The Shadow of... Lyrics

We have no future, heaven wasn't made for me
We burn ourselves to hell, as fast as it can be
And i wish that i could be a king, then i'd know that i am not alone

Maggots put on shirts, sell each others shit
Sometimes i feel so worthless,...

Moody, and magnanimously magnificent. The song with which the album is named; a slow, sombre acoustic effort in which Manson entails a lengthy metaphor.

    "We have no future
    heaven wasn't made for me
    we burn ourselves to hell
as fast as it can be."

These lines echo the emotions felt by Satan as Adam and Eve were created. Satan's insatiable lust for greed and power proved detrimental to his cause - leading to his downfall. Lucifer was cast down from Heaven, into an eternal abyss, namely, hell.

    "Death is policeman
    Death is the priest
    Death is the stereo
    Death is a TV
    Death is the Tarot
    Death is an angel and
    Death is our God
    killing us all"

This complicative obscurely beautiful metaphor depicts death as an inanimate object found in everyday situations (i.e., religion, entertainment, personalities, etc.) In this verse, Manson presents the view that death and life feed from one another, and a very close liasion is made between the two. A sentiment carried throughout the album; death takes up all forms of existence. The thematic topic of 'evolution' is also subtly touched upon in the lyrics. That tree in paradise, the tree of knowledge, life and death, has become the tree that Christ is hung upon.

"She put the seeds in me
    Plant this dying tree
    She's a burning string
    And I'm just the ashes"

The analogy alluded to here, is that of the 'dying tree'. A parallel between his relationship which turned sour (with Rose McGowan), and the dying tree of eden. The relationship was never alive, as it was born only to die - again, a common idea expressed throughout 'Holy Wood'.

MM turned the tables on The Media and Their Supporters by and ON this song. 'Cause They blamed Him without taking responsibility for Their own SINS ''committed and created'' the killing of Others that gave Them the Excuse forwanting to crucify Him[MM], when living in Hollywood. MM realized that These Je[w]suit Pharisee so called ''catHOLY'cs'' in The Media are just a UNHOLY as The Now Chosen Ones living on the so called land of HOLYwood that really just loves the sport of blood and death that took root by ''their own tree'' They planted for The Dreamers.

I like the above interpretation and believe it is relevant but also think Manson's music can be interpreted on a personal level. There seems to me a theme running through out Manson's music about taking responsibility for your life and to quit blaming everyone else for your station in life no matter how much it may be your parents fault or someone else's fault that you are where you are. Everyone reaches a point in their life where you should realize that no matter how you got to where you are it's ultimately up to you to change it. So I think this song is a good example of Manson's sublime humor and is an attempt from Manson to get you to have laugh at yourself once you realize that the baby in the baby crying in the background, which is symbolic of what's going on in the back of your mind, is Manson's way of saying that if you identify with this song then you are a CRYBABY!! (Brilliant, I f**ckin' love Manson!)
