Leaving California Lyrics

You got in so late
It's Sunday morning
Said that you were leaving
Letting go of us
Where did we go wrong? Oh
And now you say you're leaving California
Gotta head back East and want to leave tonight
Pack your things and go
But if you run...

My belief is that it's about Jane, the subject of their first album. Jane moved to Ohio for college (Gotta head back East and wanna leave tonight). He was madly in love with her, hence writing an entire album about her after dropping out of college with Jesse. He then talks about never letting go: moving to New York and attending Five Towns college just to be closer to her. (Never let it go, Oh Yeah) That's how I see it, could be incorrect though.

It's about a girl who is moving thousands of miles away, East. He doesn't want to let her go. Clinging, he's fighting for the love he feels and doesn't know where or how it went wrong. If she goes he won't be ok. When he says even if the sun crashes into us, I won't let go. He means even if they have problems he's willing to hold onto her. He doesn't want to lose her but she's hurt and in a hurry to just go.
