Rebel of Babylon Lyrics

Rebel grip your bottle tight
Just float away
Rebel is it hard to leave
What makes you stay?

Go take your poison ink
Sign life away
Then take your dirty spoon
And dig your grave
Dig your grave

Rebel grips the bottle tight
Just floats...

I think that this song is not about Jesus, rather it is about a disciple of Jesus. Stigmata is when you get the signs of being crucified like Jesus even though you weren't. Also, the "sign your life away", to me, means that you have given your life to being a follower of Jesus. I thought at first that it was about Jesus, and in a way it is, but I think that ultimately it is about following Jesus and how it leads to eternal life.

The song is about heroin addiction especially that of Layne Staley from Alice in Chains. Kirk said this song is a tribute to layne

I think this song is about heroin addiction.
Takes the dirty spoon to dig his grave/ to melt the heroin.
Go take your poison ink. I think this refers to heroin itself. Kill me one more time I think is about relapsing.
Stigmata to me refers to the sores addicts often display on their skin and also are a social stigma. Gonna die young, gonna live forever I think is self explanatory.
Let this dark shine. I think refers to the contradiction of finding immense pleasure while falling deeper into the abyss of addiction.

I think the part speaking of the fight that no one wins, claiming the crown of thorns, is about how painful trying to get clean and going through withdrawals can be.
Climbing his crucifix and waiting for dawn I think refers to holding on to your faith or to whatever can get you through the night without using.

Resurrection and rise up I think might mean to get clean.

I'm not a huge fan or Metallica neither claim to be very knowledgeable of anything beyond what others know. I just happen to like this song among a handful of other Metallica songs very much.
This one I can relate to very much, although not heroin, I have dealt with addiction in the past, and it speaks very much of my feelings and struggles.

    Metallica

    Renal of Babylon

    Gonna die young
    Gonna live forever
    Kill me one more time
    Rise up
    Rebel of Babylon
    Rise up
    Rise up
    Resurrection

    The rebel fights the fight
    That no one wins
To claim a crown of thorns
    To pierce his skin
    Climbs his crucifix
    And waits for dawn
    He loses consciousness
    The myth lives on

It's definitely about our lord and savior

It's about Nimrod. Duh. "Nimrod" (who's known by many names) was the king who built the tower of Babel (which was circular and built in a valley, so he wasn't trying to build it high enough to reach heaven, think the cern's lhc...) after the flood because he stupidly thought he could somehow reach Heaven and take God's place. Nimrod literally means rebel against God. He was the rebel of Babylon. He was, is not, and will be... he's the anti-Christ. This is most definitely NOT about Yeshua (Jesus). He's the false messiah, the anti-Christ, and that's why they alluded to the rebel of Babylon being crucified... He wants nothing more than to be God and rule all men. BS like this is in entirely too many songs I used to love, but now can't stand because I've had my eyes opened to what the hell (literally) is going on.

Nimrod was also one the first freemasons, if not the founder of the society. Notice all the triangular hand signs and pyramids and occult imagery in music today? It's everywhere. They don't even try to be clever or discreet about it any longer. Wonder why? Maybe because they're about to use cern to reach into the abyss and bring something/someone back... Nimrod is thought to maybe be Gilgamesh (remember, God confused the languages at this time so the same person had many names and he ruled many different cities). They allegedly found Gilgamesh's grave and body in 2003, a month before the US invaded. Coincidence? I think not.

To me it is about the 12 step program being a joke. When an addict is in the program they act as if the horrendous atrocities are not of their own doing. Recalling the details as if it wasn't them at all, but somebody else. So they fall into martyrdom and condemn others for not forgiving. A huge plethora if metaphors in this song parralell to addiction. Great song with many meanings.

Its about alcohol abuse. Martyring ones self in the name of your pain. The addict thinks they are a jesus-like savior to themselves drunk or high. Its about self-distruction.
