i dont think this song needs a lot of explanation regarding the lyrics. what makes this song interesting is the interplay of the music to the lyrics.
The first thing to note is that the lyrics are about giving up on love but the steady and dominate drum beat is similar to a war drum. in other words she is in a fight. she is not exactly giving up on love but trying to extract revenge. her claims of giving up on love are just a rationalization to deny how she really feels which is pissed off.
the fight can be better understood if one notices the interplay between the lyrics and the harmonica riffs.
the riffs are very reminiscent of the beatles song "I should have know better"
Right after she sings "I have given up on love cause love has given up on me" there is the harmonica riff, which as mentioned early evokes the song "I should have known better"
what does this ultimately mean for the song?
the way i see it is that she is singing a song about being pissed off and ready to fight but deep down inside she is actually angry at herself for being in a relationship she shouldnt have been in and has declared war on being in love.
