   i think this song describes how it feels to be a typically "innocent" girl, and she has fallen in love with, perhaps, a dealer, or someone with a very messed up past or current life. they may treat her well and love her so much, but she knows/feels that it won't last, or there is always the chance that they could die. they are both attached to each other, and all she wants is for this person to change and stop their ways. she knew what it would be like when they started the relationship, yet she still let herself fall in love. falling in love is the equivalent to betting and the "losing dog" is the person who she thinks is bad for her, but she can't seem to let them go.

   For me, this song is about being in a situation that you know isn't going to work out. like an abusive relationship with a person, that you hope one day will change, but you know that won't happen. But you also won't get out of this situation because you love the person, it shows when she sings, "I'll be there by their side
   I'm losing next to them", in my head it makes sense

   I see it as staying in a one sided relationship that isnt exactly abusive, but you can tell the other person doesnt feel love for you as you do for them. Such as being with them to take up time, for looks, or other things and not the actual person. "I bet on losing dogs, I know theyre losing and i pay for my place by the ring" You know its not gonna work and your giving them too much without getting any back (i never understood this song until i listened to it while crying over a guy
