Ambulance Lyrics

You don't know a thing about this life,
And we are up for everything it takes,
to prove we're not the same as them.
And we will wear our masks,
again out after dark,
'Cause we are up for everything it takes.

And we are not the...

Gerard said this song was completely written for the fans, I feel that the song he is trying to tell us that we have to try and be different from the crowd, that we can stand out and be ourselves, It's a great song with a good meaning!

Considering Gerard said this song is completely for the fans, I think this song is about MCR talking to its fans and anti-fans.

You don't know a thing about this life
And we are up for everything it takes
To prove we're not the same as them
And we will wear our masks
    Again out after dark
'Cause we are up for everything it takes
And we are not the same

Saying to critics that MCR is different from "them" (perhaps other bands, mainstream artists, etc) and that MCR will do anything to prove it.

    'Cause we are not afraid
    And we are not ashamed

Anyone who's seen MCR during Projekt Revolution knows exactly how much MCR is not afraid or ashamed. :D

And if you save my life
I'll be the one who drives you home tonight
And if they ever let you down
I'll be the one who drives you home tonight

Talking to the fans. If you're MCR's fan, they'll take care of you. If you're let down by these other bands, MCR will take care of you.

Never want to walk this kind of life
Quietly I'll sleep behind the wheel
And passing every face you see

I thought a lot about this and I think it means that MCR didn't want this kind of pressure and stress (of being the unconventional band), so they want to "sleep behind the wheel" and pass "every face you see" (as in, they want to avoid all the other artists/celebrities we see).

    But first I'll
Take in every piece as you walk by

But MCR (and Gerard especially) is extremely sensitive to the fans so they'll "take in every piece" as we walk by (i'm assuming this means both praise and criticism).

Proving that we follow my mistakes
And we are not the same

This could mean that MCR is saying it's more sensitive to its fans than other artists? Or perhaps that we all follow and watch MCR's mistakes like vultures.

'Cause we are not the same
And we are all to blame

MCR is different from other artists and this is everyone's fault. MCR for being different, other bands for not.

And if you save my life
I'll be the one who drives you home tonight
And if they ever let you down
I'll be the one who drives you home tonight
    You home tonight

    It's driving you down
    It's driving you down
    It's driving you down
    It's driving you down
    It's driving you down
    'Cause it's driving you down
    And it's driving you
    Driving you down

I believe MCR is talking to us, the fans here. We're either being driven down from the criticism MCR gets and we get for being the "emo kids", and/or we're being driven down by the onslaught of other artists/bands/society telling us what's acceptable and cool (and driving down our individuality).

And you don't know a thing about this life
And you don't know a thing about this life
And you don't know a thing about this life

You anti-fans don't know, don't understand, and maybe will never know/understand.

MCR isn't about being "emo". MCR's songs aren't dark-themed to be cool. All the pain and emotion in the songs are based off life experiences. You don't know a thing about this life because you haven't experienced this kind of pain.

'Cause you don't know a thing about me
    You don't know a thing
And if you save my life
I'll be the one who drives you home tonight
And if they ever let you down
I'll be the one who drives you home tonight
    You home tonight
    Drives you home tonight
    'Cause it's driving you down
    'Cause it's driving you down
    'Cause it's driving you down
    'Cause it's driving you
    Driving you
    Driving you down

"You don’t know a thing about this life
And we are up for everything it takes to prove we’re not the same as them
And we will wear our masks again out after dark
‘Cause we are up for everything it takes and we are not the same"
    - you may think someone is doing something for attention when it's actually a whole entire different reason.
    - this is pretty much literal and explains itself. Some people choose to be different and expresses it
    - Wearing your "mask" after dark part is kind of tricky, you think of a mask as a disguise or as something fake, to protect your face/head, or as something to cover your face/ head. There's a deeper meaning I'm taking a wild guess and going with that when you may be at home at night resting and comfortable, in a way we/they work over time to make sure others are okay this has to have something to do with the last album before this...
    - the last part has a connection with the 2 and 3 line
    "‘Cause we are not afraid
    And we are not ashamed"
    - We are not afraid or ashamed to be different or loud or anything
"And if you save my life
I’ll be the one who drives you home tonight
And if I ever let you down
I’ll be the one who drives you home tonight"
    - the chorus; if you save me, help me out, guide me through this and support me then I'll help you out too and make sure your okay
    - and If I do let you down, then I'll do anything to make it up
"Remember, once you walked this kind of life
Quietly I’ll sleep behind the wheel
And passing every face you see the first time
Singing every piece as you walk by
Proving that with all of my mistakes
That we are not the same"
    - every once has been depressed, felt left out, been judged, and has a hard time
    - someone will be with you whether you know it or not to make sure you make it through what you go through
    - and as you walk by people you may be looking down or something singing a song that comforts you this has a deeper meaning I'm guessing to it
    - everyone has made different mistakes, so they try to show people they're different but in the end everyone is, we've all made different mistakes so no one is really ever the same
    "It's driving you down
    It's driving you down
    It's driving you down
    It's driving you down
    It's driving you down
    'Cause it's driving you down
It's driving you, driving you down"
    - whatever you maybe be going through, you feel like you're being dragged deeper into a whole and you can't get out but others don't understand

I hope this helped c: -Savannah

I think this song has something to do with the mistakes they, or Gerard, made as kids. "You don't know a thing about this life" shows that he's maybe talking to someone about his past stating that they don't actually know the real story, this also goes back to the lyrics "you don't know a thing about my sins" in Heaven Help Us, the title itself even shows that he regrets his mistakes. "We'll wear our masks again out after dark" shows that maybe he was sneaking off somewhere with other people? Another one that leans towards the song being about mistakes is "if you save my life I'll be the one who drives you home tonight" maybe asking someone to save him from his mistakes and past and that if they do then he'll protect them and look after them. That's just my opinion though.
