How Could You Leave Us Lyrics

[Hook]
How could you leave us so unexpected?
We were waiting, we were waiting
For you but you just left us
We needed you, I needed you

[Verse 1]
Yo, I don't know what it's like to be addicted to pills
But I do know what it's like to be...

His song is so much more than about his mothers overdose. His song tells you how he feels guilty for not calling her, not stopping her from her addiction that caused her to leave her children behind. He also goes into how she wasn't ever there for him, cause she was always to busy doing drubs but about how much he misses her anyways because you cant not love you mother and how now he will have kids and she wont be there to take care of them cause he couldnt stay away from drugs. It shows his self hatred because he blames himself, i would know, something similar happened to me.

How Could You Leave Us is a song of pain, resentfulness, and reflection about his mother and her drug addiction.

"Yo, I don't know what it's like to be addicted to pills"
His mother is taking pills, and is stuck, addicted.

    "I'm in a room with a parent that I don't barely know"
He's losing touch with her and feels so far away, even next to her.

"I guess pills are more important, all you have to say is no"
He doesn't understand how she can't stop.

"Why do I feel like I lost something that I never had?"
Apparently, during his life she didn't have as much touch with him as her wished. One of NF's other songs, Nate, says that...

"Remember back when Mom picked us up from Grandma's house? And she hid her boyfriend in the trunk and drove a couple miles? Down the street, and then she pulled over to let him out. 'Cause she ain't want Dad to know she had these type of dudes around"

...his mother wasn't the most faithful person in the world.

"I know you're gone but I can still feel you"
He's grasping the memories he has, trying not to think about the fact that she isn't who and where she used to be.

"They found you on the floor, I could tell you felt hollow
Gave everything you had plus your life to them pill bottles
You gave everything you had plus your life to them pill bottles
Don't know if you hear me or not, but if you're still watching, why..?"
Eventually his mother let go -died-, leaving him here, alone.

Top Rated 1 the taking note parts I think refers to A Government Organisation taking notes on the kid seeing how they are going mentally etc. They do it on people that have suffered very traumatic experiences. Like NF saying he experienced neglect etc

This song is too much. It's about NF losing his mom to drugs, its abt pain, remorse, wanting but failing to forgive and the past. TBH when I first heard this song I didn't get it but listening to it for the second time I finally got it. I'm a person who is not really familiar with drugs but I'm a person who clings to the past, thinks I forgive but definitely don't and don't forget. Basically this song is everything pain and remorse!

I know how NF feels a little bit. I lost my best friend to suicide and I also know people who have tried to overdose multiple times even at school. I am a freshman in High School. I have been at the point where I wanted to attempt but then I though about my friends and family. Life is a very scary place and the choices people make are really hard for all of us. I have learned to just forgive and let go even though it is a hard thing to do. NF is in a very hard situation right now and he feels super guilty for what his mother did. I feel guilty for my best friends death as well and I always will. You just need to find you real friends and have them help you get out of that state of mind before you end up hurting yourself. Nate if you ever read things like this: You are NOT alone. Keep holding on for your mother, friends, other family, and future children. This is gonna be a very hard thing to do but you will pull through. Try talking to people about it or keep expressing how you feel through music because that is what you do best. I can relate to half of your songs. I relte to Paralyzed, Let You Down, Lie, Mansion, Time, If You Want Love, Got You On My Mind, Lost In The Moment and Let Me Go. You are not alone. I know the struggle and hurt things like this causes. Keep expressing yoursef through music. You got this Nate. <3

I know what this song is about because the same thing happened to me. Anyway it is about this kid losing his mom to an overdose and how he hates the way he remembers her.

Also this song is not only about the fact that his mom died from an overdose of pills, but he also feels guilty for not stopping or calling her more. I think with something like this It brings back memories and bad times but I think that I feel kinda happy I'm not alone in this and I have no fear of being alone anymore

This song is super emotional song. It is about Nates moms drug addiction. When people first hear the song you might not understand it. When I heard the song for the first time, I cried because it hit so close to home. My mom and dad are both drug addicts, thankfully they have not passed, but I feel the pain each day. I feel very sorry for what pain NF is going through. For some people this song might not mean anything, but for people like me, it is a song that you can connect to.

This song is about the loss of his mother. They had to be watched by CPS when his mother was around and the person sitting in the corner taking notes was a CPS worker watching and supervising them. He is upset with himself for not calling more. He also doesn’t fully forgive his mom for choosing pills over her children. He says music is his way to talk to his mom hence “Therapy” he hates he remembers her in this way like when he smells cigarette smoke. He didn’t understand what was happening because he was so young.

the whole entire song is about his mother's death, he's upset because she never spent much time with her kids, all she did was pills, pills, and pills. They never expected her death though.. CPS had to watch over him and his siblings everytime their mother was around..

Also, about how he is saying where you at ma I'm to young to understand this he doesn't know what was happening but he was older and knew that he could've stopped her from dying and he blames himself for her death.

It's him reflecting on his mother's death in the only place he can talk to her, in his music studio. He can't forgive his mum for what she did.
