Hero Lyrics

I am so high, I can hear heaven
I am so high, I can hear heaven
Oh but heaven, no heaven don’t hear me

And they say that a hero can save us
I’m not gonna stand here and wait
I’ll hold on to the wings of the eagles,
Watch as we all fly...

I don't think this song is meant to denounce Christianity. I think it is written as someone taking the role of a hero like in Spiderman, the film the song was for.

I am so high. I can hear heaven.
I am so high. I can hear heaven.
Oh but heaven, no heaven don't hear me.

He either is physically high from swinging between buildings or he feels high from having new abilities. He only thinks he can hear heaven, obviously heaven doesn't hear him because he is not dead.

And they say that a hero can save us.
(Mankind's long held belief that there is someone out there that can make everything better).
Im not gonna stand here and wait.
(I am not going to wait for someone to come along, but I will rise to the challenge and do it myself).

Someone told me love will all save us.
(If we leave it to mankind to love each other, everything will work out).
But how can that be, look what love gave us.
A world full of killing, and blood-spilling.
    (Crime, murders, war, etc.)
    That world never came.
(Peace doesn't come automatically, everyone must work for it and sometimes a hero is necessary).

Now that the world isn't ending, its love that I'm sending to you.
(Now that I have saved the world from whatever was threatening it, I now have time for my private life and loving someone).
It isn't the love of a hero, and that's why I fear it won't do.
(The one I love doesn't know I am the hero, and therefore I fear that it will not be good enough).

    (Soldier's Interpretation)
I am so high. I can hear heaven.
I am so high. I can hear heaven.
No heaven, no heaven don't hear me.
(The singer is a soldier waiting in an aircraft.)
And they say that a hero can save us.
(Humankind's eternal belief that someone can save the world.)
Im not gonna stand here and wait.
I'll hold onto the wings of the eagles.
Watch as we all fly away.
(The singer is not willing to wait while everything falls.)

Someone told me love will ALL save us.
    (Let love work everything out.)
But how can that be, look what love gave us.
A world full of killing, and blood-spilling
    That world never came.
(To stare into a scarred, war-torn future and to realize there is no hope.)
Now that the world isn't ending, its love that Im sending to you. (The bloodshed is over and that leaves him to more pleasant activities, like to write to a girlfriend back home.)
It isn't the love of a hero, and that's why I fear it won't do.
(He is just another soldier, not a 'hero'.)

Well the first lyrics: I am so high I can hear heaven . Repeated twice.
    Only to be followed by.
But heaven,no heaven don't hear me.

I think this person is answering a calling from God.
And must put aside what they want to carry out what God has laid for them as a servant does.
Someone told me Love will all save us. But how can that be look at what love gave us. A world full of killing

Granted Peter Parker didn't choose to be Spiderman. However, Based on his moral background he made a conscious choice to use his chance acquired gift for the good of mankind.
    Seen here in the lyrics.
And they say a hero can save us I'm not going to stand here and wait.

I'll hold onto the wings of the Eagles and watch as we all flyaway.

Who is we? And what are we flying away to or from? We, I believe is a reference to people who still hold a believe that there is a force for good in the world. This being what benefits the majority of humankind, versus what benefits a select few.
I'll hold on the wings of the eagles, is a metaphor for cleaning tightly to convictions and doing the hard right versus the easy wrong.

Someone told me love will all save us ,but how can that be a look at what love gave us.
A World full of killing and blood spilling that world never came.

Love here is the love of oneself and one's own desires versus what works to the betterment of others.

Now that the world isn't ending as love that I'm sending to you. It isn't the love of a hero and that's why I fear it won't do.
This goes back to Peter Parker's own insecurities about himself being Peter Parker when he's not Spiderman. Or the 'underneath this armor lies a very real
person who does above and beyond things'.
If you knew this was me ,who was doing all this , would you still feel the same.

Just an interpretation here not to be taken literally. Like it don't like it completely up to you.

I had never given this song much thought until I heard it on Pandora the other day while I was working. I grew up a Christian, and I immediately noticed what seemed to be references to Christianity. To me, this song seems to be about losing faith in what Christianity teaches. Allow me to explain,
    verse by verse.

I am so high. I can hear heaven.
I am so high. I can hear heaven.

(this is most likely a drug reference, or just a feeling of elation)

No heaven, no heaven don't hear me.

(the writer feels God does not hear him)

And they say that a hero can save us.

(Christians believe that Jesus died to save us, and that upon His return, He will establish a new Earth, one without pain and suffering. Furthermore, we are commanded to wait upon the Lord)(Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles...)

Im not gonna stand here and wait.

(the writer has decided not to wait)

I'll hold onto the wings of the eagles.
Watch as they all fly away.

(here the writer could be saying that he will join others who have decided not to wait, but to fly away)(eagles represent freedom, and everyone is choosing the freedom to fly away from old Christian teachings)

Someone told me love will all save us.

(This could be referring to God. God is love according to the Bible)

But how can that be, look what love gave us.

(God is also said to be the creator of the world)

A world full of killing, and blood-spilling

(here the writer feels God created a bad world)

    That world never came.

(The writer was promised a new world when Christ returned. However, since Christ has yet to return, the writer states that world never came)

And they say that a hero can save us.
Im not gonna stand here and wait.
I'll hold onto the wings of the eagles.
Watch as they all fly away.

Now that the world isn't ending

(end time prophecies are the ones that state there will be a new Earth) (I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more Revelation 21:1)

It's love that I'm sending to you.

(the writer could be referring to sending out human love)

It isn't the love of a hero
And that's why I fear it won't do.

(the writer may be saying since it isn't God's love he's sending, it may not do)

And they say that a hero can save us.
I'm not gonna stand here and wait.
I'll hold onto the wings of the eagles.
Watch as they all fly away.

    And they're watching us
    (Watching Us)

(the masses are watching them as everyone chooses to be free from Christian teachings, and fly away)

    As they all fly away.

I could be completely wrong, but this song really does not seem to be merely about a web slinging super hero. This song seems to be about losing faith in God, or at least in love.

I love what someone said on May 3rd. I as an atheist don't bash on religion, I just find it to be funny at times. That comment is golden. So true.

I think the song is based on christianity. I to me the song questions the realisticness of the religion coz there say
(I am so high I can hear heaven)
It sounds like they are saying they are at the height of there career and feel like in heaven.
    (But heaven don't hear me)
Its like they may feel like in heaven but they know that there are no way near heaven and if there is one it doesn't care about them.
(Someone told me love will all save us, but how could that be look what love gave us , a world full of killing and blood spilling that will never change)
Here they seem to be talking about christ saying that people think that his love will save us but he came and left the world in pain and it will never end .
(Now that world isn't ended, its love that I am sending to you, its not love from a hero that why I fear it won't do)
Here there are say now that we all can see that the world is not going to end anytime soon, there music is the love there are sending to you, but because its not coming from the expected hero that's why they fear you'll never going to take it seriously.
(And they say that a hero will save as I can't just stand here and wait I hold on to the wings of the eagle watch as we all fly away)
And now there are saying there are not going to wait for the hero to come but they are going to hold on to the fame from there career and because greater and popular hence they are sing (and there are watching us fly away x4) just like they say christ did when he left earth but to them its about making best of life while you still alive and not waiting on one to help us be great. All in all its a great song which is honest. Listen carefully to Rockstar

When we paused in our conversation, we noticed that it seemed awfully quiet inside the tent.Lynch raised his rifle, firing a long stream of bullets that tore Flare'S wing to bloody shreds.Once she was sufficiently clean, Treach had her stand while he toweled her dry.All of these boys were looking at my pussy. Her pussy lips brushed my chin, and she threw her head back into the clear blue Summer sky.Yes, I know a nice little private beach. With a chuckle, Julie reached under the hassock and pulled out a curious device of straps and plastic.Papanicolaou'S Test was performed and the results were returned negative from the laboratory. We'Ll always have what we'Ve got at the moment. He looked up, put down his drink and drew me to him, returning my kiss and at the same time caressing my breast through the nightgown.Although it is too dark to see, I try to imagine her in my minds eye totally naked from the waist down, as she is in fact.Specifically, about her.

You guys have already said that maybe this song here is an explanation about human laziness and that we always stand still waiting for some 'hero'.

Ok... Now change the word 'hero' to 'God'...

    So easy...

I was under the impression this song was a tribute to 9/11, "Someone once told me love would save us" Thats to do with their loved ones calling them, telling them they're going to be alright. "I am so high I can hear heaven, but heaven wont hear me" They're really high up, but no one is coming to save them, or that they're close to heaven, but were they are now is nothing like heaven "Watch as we all fly away" I simply the people who jumped

Of course I did. I’d met Martin Gilmartin a while back, after I’d been arrested for stealing his collection of baseball cards. I hadn’t done it, but my alibi would have been that I was cracking an apartment across town at the time, and I figured I was better off keeping my mouth shut. It all worked out, and Marty and I wound up having a mutually profitable association, breaking effortlessly into houses of friends of his who wanted to collect on their insurance. We each had a good chunk of cash by the time we were done, and mine was enough to buy the building that housed the bookstore. Now I don’t have to worry about grasping landlords, since I’ve had the good fortune to become one myself. You know how they say crime doesn’t pay? They don’t know what they’re talking about. That day, as fate would have it, she had opened the curtain and was chatting with the woman across the lane when Vesperus passed by and got two close-up views of her. But because of her own nearsightedness, all she saw was the vague outline of a man dawdling in front of her shop; she had no idea what he looked like. Not so the woman across the lane, however, who enjoyed an excellent view.“So many things could.”

To me it's about the people in the 911 twin towers who can't wait to be rescued anymore and who jump off. People watching as they all fly away.

Well, Nickelback is not a Christian band and they also don't do Anti Christian stuff... Decide is a Satanic band which do this kind of stuff, there is nothing about brainwash they just tell their point of view and some of their things are kind of true. oh and to the guy who said that stuff about Jew's. You actually have no idea about religion and I really didn't hear anything that stupid in a wille. but enough about that.

I also think it is not about Spiderman of course, it was made for the movie and in some parts it fit's realy well but it also fits to Assasin's Creed 2 and they couldn't know how it would be. There is the idea of the soldier, it fit's also really well, when I heard about it first, I imagined an soldier on a plane waiting to jump out whit an parachute, land and start to fight for his life and for his beliefs...
But in my point of view it is not only about war it is about the miserable in the world itself.

I am so high. I can hear heaven.
I am so high. I can hear heaven.
(To be high can mean, that you on drugs, but also that you high over the ground,it don't have to mean physically it could mean that the pesrson is so enlightened that he can "see" whats going on while the rest of the people is "Blind" and that means that the person which is high is looking down on the world and see whats going on there. If you refer it whit Spiderman it fits caurse Spiderman is often on Skiskrapers and looking down)
Oh but heaven, no heaven don't hear me.
(Heaven ever meant the good stuff. While in the first two lines heaven just shows how hight he is, is the meaning of heaven the paredise and that heaven can't here him could mean that he is closer to "hell". That means that what he see is not good. Spiderman looking for crime and that's what he find's)

And they say that a hero can save us.
(The whole world believes that there have to be somebody who won't let them down, for some it's will be the Christ for some the Antichrist for some it will be Muhamet and so on. And here it doesn't fit whit Spiderman. If there was somebody who had saved Uncle Ben he would not become a hero.)
Im not gonna stand here and wait.
(That means that the person is not willing to wait till somebudy help those who need it and that's why he is taking the initiative and help them. It could also mean that the person will not wait till the miserable happen to him and just want to leave this world before it's to late.)
I'll hold onto the wings of the eagles.
(In the American culture, eagles are really proud and august animals, this are qualities that every hero should have and to "hold onto the wing of the eagles" means to be like eagles not exactly like them just to have this noble qualities.)
Watch as we all fly away.
("Flyaway" could tell us about the wish of that person to leave this world and to enter an better one like "heaven")

Someone told me love will all save us.
But how can that be, look what love gave us.
A world full of killing, and blood-spilling
(Many people said that love is all what we need to make the world better, maybe it this is about balance in the world then more love you give then more blood are on your hand's. I don't think so but that is how you could Interpretat this.)
    That world never came.
(This is kind of confusing. What "world never came", The world of Love or the World of Killing?)

Now that the world isn't ending, it's love that Im sending to you.
It isn't the love of a hero, and that's why I fear it won't do.
(The thought that the end didn't came yet have something optimistically that the end would maybe never come or at least that we won't live to see it coming. "It isn't the love of a hero" tells that the person isn't a hero so he won't save the world)

PS: Even when I had so much to interpret in it this song doesn't mean so much and it don't have to be true. Lats face it Nickelback is an commercial band this song was made to make money and you should not take it so seriously... oh and sorry for my bad english.

Even though the song was used in the spiderman movie it's not about that kind of a hero.
and the proof of that comes at the end
"It's not the love of a hero
and that's why l fear it won't do"
it is infact about a soldier. l'm not sure but it may be about the air-force "hold on to the wings of the eagles/watch as we all fly away"
    Could be anything really.

Well I think the writer was going to a religious side here. I think it's about jews, believing in the antichrtist as a hero they're waiting for...and him -as a christian- is not gonna stand here and wait(for their hero) he's going to hold on to the wings of the eagles leaving to heaven as he's hearing it while he's high and watching as love fly away from earth as it's ending with the hands of their so called 'hero'. end

Its about how you cant always save the ones you love, while there are super hero refferences throughout, that may not be the central theme here. I simply think that its as much about how, no matter how hard we try, not everythings going to work out fine.
