   No offence but this song isn't even remotely about drug abuse. The song is about apathy, morality, and simply humanity.
   
   In the beginning of the song our main character is at a crossroads with many of the decisions that he has made. Lyrics such as "as far as I have gone I knew what side I'm on" describes the characters idea that his actions are not necessarily in the right. "is there anybody stopping me, is there anybody on top of me" belays the fact that the character no longer recognizes himself and has taken an arguably impersonal view of his own actions thus leaving him berift of responsibility.
   
   To take a Pink Floydian point of view we could argue that the character is mentally locked up inside of himself and is letting a more malevolent part of his personality control his actions. "the more I stay in here, the more I dissapear" Implying that the character is actually dissapearing into himself. this idea ties into the themes of identity and self awareness that are also heavily present throughout the album.
   
   Most likely the "line" refers to more than one thing. The character's identity could be the blurry line "there are things, that I said I would never do"; or his morality "for my soul is to sick and to little and to late" or the line could be an apathetic point of view on reality "It's far beyond repair, and I don't really care"
   
   Keep in mind that my point of view is based only on the supporting themes provided throughout the album, and my own experience listening to this and many many other NIN songs.
   That does not mean that this point of view is absolute or even correct.

   I think this song could be about drug use and getting lost in the world of drugs so quickly without even realizing.. accidentally crossing the line (since it's beginning to blur!) Really, though, this song could have a lot of interpretations. I think it's basically about crossing a line you never thought you'd cross.
