About a Girl Lyrics

I need an easy friend
I do... with an ear to lend
I do... think you fit this shoe
I do... about you have a clue

I'll take advantage while
You hang me out to dry
But I can't see you every night
Free
I do...

I'm standing in your...

This song was written about Tracy. They had been arguing and fighting, and basically it's his way of saying he still loves her. "I can see you every night, free" was taken straight from an argument he and Tracy had. "I need an easy friend" he needs her, "I do with an ear to lend" he needs her to listen, "I do think you fit this shoe" he thinks that she's the one that can help and listen to him, "I do, won't you have a clue" he's asking if she realizes how much she means to him.

The story of how they got the name of the song is a good one so I'll just put it out there. Kurt wrote the song and showed to Chad and Krist, they liked it and asked what it was called Kurt said he hadn't given it a name yet so Krist asked "what's it about?", Kurt replied "It's about a girl" and then they decided it would be called About A Girl.

I like love songs that are written by ppl who don't usually do lovesongs because they're less likely to use dry chliches and may instead portray the essence of it in an unusual way.
I wonder how that chick reacted when she found out this was written for her. They had long since separated, and he'd gotten a wife in the mean time, but if you found out someone you used to care for told the whole world how much he cared about you (by making a very popular piece of art, at that) and he'd died without you noticing about it, I imagine that this would cause the old feelings to resurface at least for a moment...

The lyric is actually, "i can't see you every night, for free" kurt and tracy fighting over kurt not having a job, and he would be the one getting fed up with it and threatening to live on the streets tracy didnt want to see him do that so it was a never ending cycle till he left her

I hated the unplugged version of this song at first, but I'm really loving this song now! What's it mean by "I do have a number to"?

Why do you people insist on repeating an interpretation? I don't honestly understand the point in it! Or, why do you people post stupid crap?

This song is indeed about kurt's girlfriend at the time tracy. actually Kurt had been homeless and tracy took him in. Kurt was not working and paid nothing toward rent or upkeep but often did things around the apartment...as per tracy's own words. Kurt relied on the relationship for support but also claimed that tracy was the only girl he ever loved, until he met courtney. Tracy took care of him and he often gifted her bizarre items such as dolls he would make, or a collage of disease infested vaginas and slabs of meat. you can see more about Kurt and tracy's relationship and this song meaning from tracy's interview in the documentary "kurt & courtney". RIP KURT

When I first heard song I thought ''Its about a prostitute''. ô I need an easy friend ô EASY. He doesnt say '' I can see you every night free'' He's saying ô But I cant see you every night free ô. You need to pay for the company of a prostitute. ô Im standing in your line ô He's on the line of clients waiting for a prostitute. ô I'll take advantage while, you hang me out to dry ô He is patiently waiting for her so he can '' keep his date with her''. He's in love with a prostitute and she doesnt know. ô I do wont you have a clue? ô

Talking bout how you just need a non-judgmental friend to listen to you cause your going through a tough time.

Then talking bout that friend kinda manipulating you because your opening up so much so she gets all your feelings out all at once, and dries your emotions up. but Kurt doesn't want to hang out every single night...

This friend is a good friend so naturally she has a lot of other friends. So Kurt will wait till she has to time to listen to him again

It is about Kurt's girlfriend Tracy. She was upset because he never wrote a song about her, so he did. He never told her it was about her. When coming up with the title they asked what it was about. Kurt said,"It's about a girl." That is how it got the name.

Trivia fact here, Tracy Mandara never actually knew this song was about her, until she read Come as you are: The story of Nirvana.
