Nirvana: Swap Meet Meaning
Swap Meet Lyrics
They lead a lifetime that is comfortable
They travel far to keep their stomachs full
They make their living off of arts and crafts
The kind with seashells, driftwood and burlap
They make a deal when they come to town
The Sunday swap meet is...

This song is about an older couple that befriended Kurt at their local flea market. His mom would often just drop him off there on weekends just to be rid of him. The couple are simple minded & poor, but depend on & love each other. They just don't know how to show it.

Well..it seems to be about a couple who love each other, but at the same time resent each other. I initially thought it was about Cobain's parents and the breakdown of their marriage, but the couple are described as traveling hippys, who sell arts and crafts at a market (swap meet). Cobains parents were not hippys..they were fairly conservative, so maybe it is about his parents, but he describes a fictional couple to be more subtle? just a guess..
