You Know You're Right Lyrics

I will never bother you
I will never promise to
I will never follow you
I will never bother you

Never speak a word again
I will crawl away for good

I will move away from here
You wont be afraid of fear
No thought was put in to this
I...

It is obviously about Kurt leaving Courtney.

I will never bother you, etc. - He is saying he will neveer follow, bother, etc.

Never speak a word again, I will crawl away for good - He will avoid Courtney, not talking to her, etc.

No thought was put into this - He's saying that there was no thought put into being married.

"crawling" away for good, implies that he feels more like some kind of creature, a sub human. the first verse: "I will never bother you... etc", combined with Kurt's reference to Courtney "nothing really bothers her, she just wants to love herself", clearly explains that Kurt had had his self esteem beaten-down by the feelings of loneliness and abandonment from Courtney's carelessness. Basically, the song in a couple sentences: You don't care about me? I'll just fucking crawl away like the worthless, piece of shit you think I am.
PS "warm and calm inside" strikes me as being a type of momentary relief from his thoughts by an opiod (probably heroin); the extreme emotions he reflected on earlier in the song sort of take the back-seat because under the influence of heroin, this whole thing isn't much of an important issue. Then, I sort of envision him looking at courtney and feeling a complete lack of emotional connection with her "nothing really bothers her... love herself", which brings him back to his feelings from the beginning of the song
finally, "you know you're right" = Courtney, you've always known better than me, I've always just been a dumbass when I disagree with you (even though I think the tiny bit of self-worth left in him makes him feel pity on himself, because I think he actually believes he's right but that the world in general is so fucked up that his opinion/feelings wouldn't be valued anyways because he's not "supposed" to feel how he does). but he doesn't have the self-esteem to express his feelings because he's been downtrodden, rejected, and excluded by others his whole life, the only time anyone really loved him was as an image (rock icon)

If you know anything about the murder conspiracy of Kurt Cobain then this song may ring a bell. If you do belive it then you can see how the song relates to Kurt's plans to leave Seattle, the music industry and Courtney Love.

'I will move away from here'

The moving away refers to his intentions to leave everything behind.

'Things have never been so swell
I have never felt this well'

This shows how Cobain was no longer suicidal as said by many of his close friends at the time, however people who do not believe in the murder theory belive this to be a sarcastic comment on the fact that he was still in a lot of pain.

'I'm so warm and calm inside
I no longer have to hide'

this can also be shown that he was not suicidal and that he is finaly happy on the inside. The I no longer have to hide could mean that once he moves away he won't have to hide from everything which brings him down.

'She just wants to love herself'

This could refer to Courtney Love and could be anger comming from Kurt as he plans to divorce her.

However, this song could also be interpreted as a type of suicide note, I don't think it is but its whatever you think it is.

He says 'I will crawl away from you' suggesting he was on his hands and knees.. Maybe pleading not to break up but finally accepting defeat and crawling away. Kurt and Courtney had a rocky relationship lots of people do, but some people seem to return to each other dispite anything that happens. Even when they, themselves know its bad for them. 'You know your right' I constantly admit my wife is right during conversations, and arguments for that matter just to avoid any further problems. Like break up..
    Thats my two pence anyway

I think the song’s about Kurt’s deteriorating relationship with Courtney Love. When it was first performed in October or November of 1993, the lyrics were much different. They were very much directed at Courtney, and were also very hateful. You can watch the bootleg on YouTube. But the lyrics “She just wants to love herself,” makes it seem as if Courtney is oblivious to the fact that her relationship with Kurt is bad. It also makes it seem that she is just trying to figure herself out and maybe that’s why their relationship is plummeting. The lyrics “I will crawl away for good,” also seem like he was just backing away from their relationship all together. I don’t know, I never knew the band personally, but from just listening to this song on repeat makes me feel the way I do.

To me this song is about leaving someone and cutting all ties in regards to the relationship.

I agree on the comment that this song was about leaving courtney and that is why she fought about it coming out. In my opinion ..motive?

i agree with those that feel this song is about leaving his cold hearted sociopathic selfish wife. like most of the songs on in utero. my opinion. to me it is obvious. pretty sad. poor guy.

He's blaming himself for everything. He feels like a failure.

"I have never failed to fail"
"Its so warm and calm inside" is not about heroin use but more so of his acceptance as a failure.

Without referencing the analysis the artist most hated. I will state my opinion as to the meaning of the song. I think it basically it's over all message is one of simply trying to get away in the midst of an argument saying in essence a disingeniune and de-escaltatory "Yes, you're right." coupled with a plea of "Just let me/it go.". Conveying he was done fighting and just wanted out.

While making it clear who he was talking to.

This is clearly about suicide. If one of you people who say it isn't would actually take the time to listen to the song, and read the lyrics, it's very obvious that it's about suicide.

I basically figure it's a rebellious song against the "control freak". He seemed like he just wanted to be creative and write songs but people out there started to try and control him and his creative thought. He didn't like that because he knew he had something special creatively and he didn't like people messing with it. He started to see people as controlling and just being in the way of his progress in life. But people around him thought that he had issues and not them. Well, he soon just gave up and said, You Know, You're Right. And that helped him to just give up but also made him weaker. Made him loose a lot of his individuality. He lost his fight/passion because of it. So he just decided to kill himself because people took away what he loved most, his confidence. He gave up on people, couldn't fight the control freak anymore.

It all makes a little more sense now. I think she was possesive of him, she didn't want him to leave her, he started writing this song and then he winds up dead? A bit strange.

This is about kurt wanting to leave courtney because the relationship was not what it should have been however he is upset at wanting to divorce his wife and leave frances in a broken family like he was.

Why is every so against the idea that Kurt Cobain could have committed suicide some of the lyrics are wrong it says IM so warm and cold inside instead of calm inside and it says I have never failed to fail and things have never been so swell

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
