Fool's Gold Lyrics

I’m like a crow on a wire
You’re the shining distraction that makes me fly
I’m like a boat on the water
You’re the raise on the waves that calm my mind
Oh every time
And I know in my heart you’re not a constant star

And yeah I’ve let you...

I feel like the meaning of this song may be selective to each individual.
It relates very personally to me in that, no matter how’s often the other person gives reason indicating they don’t love the same way, it doesn’t really matter because you can’t stop loving them. They’re like a drug you can’t escape. Sometimes, when it’s convenient for them, they’ll treat you like a prize. They’ll be good to you until it no longer benefits them and they disappear again, and you know what they’re doing when they come back, but it doesn’t matter because you’re not done falling yet.
This song to me is the ultimate form of heartbreak. The kind that leave a you questioning why you aren’t good enough, they one that leaves you wrestled and confused.

I personally think fools gold is about a guy who fell for a girl but yet he knows that she is playing him and doesnt feel the same way, since fools gold is literally a rock which tricks people into thinking they found gold. So shes fooling him into thinking he found love

I believe that this song is about a boy who fell in love with a girl that he knows is using him, but he doesn't care because he loves her too much to let her go. Not caring if the love is unrequited.

Fool's Gold means "Fake Love" in that song.Even though he knew that her feelings for him is not real,he still can't stop falling for her fake love. After all the things she did to him,he don't regret that he loved her.

I think this song is about a guy who falls for a girl that uses him. He knows that she used him but doesn't care because he is blinded by his love. The first verse gives metaphors of how this girl made him feel, and it's relatively happy. This leads me to believe that he wasn't aware that she was using him at first. He eventually learned and is sad, but doesn't regret it. You would think he would have been sad or heartbroken, but he seems to be okay with it. I think he is fine with it because of how she made him feel before he knew her intentions. He doesn't care whether it was real or fake, but he's glad it happened anyway.

I personally saw it this way so I wrote it like this, but please keep in mind they could be any pronouns!!

Okay, I saw something that said this was from the fan's perspective, and I actually could totally agree with that. HOWEVER. I also think it could be about Larry. Here's why.

Harry was portrayed as a womanizer (which he is not how dare they make my sweet innocent baby look like he's despicable like that). Modest media basically forced him to flirt with every girl who spoke to him. SO I know all the boys co-wrote the song, but all the boys were also Larry shippers. Niall was basically the captain of the ship, it's obvious in every video you watch. Liam was sick of their shit but he loved them bc you could see him laughing at every reference or joke they made about it. Zayn just watched them be all cute and he always seemed so giddy about them being cute together. So what if the boys were helping Louis and Harry write it?

"I'm the first to admit that I'm reckless,
I get lost in your beauty and I can't see two feet in front of me"
that is CLEARLY Louis talking about Harry. We all know Louis is kind of the wild one, the one who parties and drinks and smokes, aka the reckless one. And we KNOW Louis gets lost in Harry's beauty. There are DOZENS of times where you can see Louis watching Harry and just trailing off or forgetting what he was doing because he was watching Harry. (Well really you can see them both doing it bc Harry was the same way when looking at Louis).
"And I knew that you turn it on for everyone you met,
    But I don't regret,
    Falling for you,
    Fool's gold"
Louis is trying to tell Harry that he knows he has to flirt with all these girls, but he doesn't regret falling for him anyways. Reason being he probably knows Harry won't actually be attracted to any of the girls he has to flirt with because he knows Harry belongs to him and only him. They knew how strong their love was, even if they didn't realize how long it could've lasted. In Louis's song Too Young he flat out admitted that he and Harry were "too young to know we had everything", but we know that's not Eleanor because she came around way after Harry and Louis were together. Let's not forget that Louis was 18 when he met Harry and Harry was 16 when he met Louis. (I think in my opinion Harry fell first but Louis fell harder)

Y'all forget that they cried during concerts because management told them they couldn't be out, so when singing songs like Over Again and You & I, they were crying on stage while stealing glances at each other (not to mention there were a few performances where they walked off stage because they didn't want the camera to catch them crying).

I rest my case. If you don't think this song is about Larry, I'd like to know what makes you think otherwise.
    Take care and tpwk :)

I believe this song is about 2 people (not gender related) who are in "love". one of them is jut using the other for attention and the other actually loves them and knows they are using them. that doesnt stop them from pretending not to notice and go on because even though the feeling isnt mutual

To me, this song is about the intrinsic need for belonging we all feel.
1D knows that because of their fame, most of the people who date them don't actually want to know them, they just think of them as "a member of One Direction." And this makes the boys feel alienated because they just want to be known as people.
Because of their need for acceptance, they choose to believe the people they date really care about them even though they know deep down that their partners are only interested in fame and money. ("I've let you use me from the day that we first met.")
The fool's gold is the idea that this person will ever truly love them and care about them. The metaphors used in the beginning are about shallow distractions that don't ever have any meaning, like compliments from their lover or flirtatious moments.

Okay so this is my opinion and is a bit of a far stretch but maybe it is aimed at the management. How they look so good from the outside but the public can’t see the controlling things they have done. “Don’t regret falling for your fools gold” could mean they didn’t know what they were getting into but they don’t regret it as they wouldn’t be where they are without them. And “not done yet falling for your fools gold” could mean they don’t want to give it up.
“Know your loves not real” could imply the management don’t really care about the boys.
    I don’t know - just a thought.

I think this is about a girl using this guy just for attention or maybe even other things . But what the guy doesn't know is that he really had feelings for this girl and she just used him. Just like that.

In my opinion Fool's Gold, is about a love, where the boy or the girl, has fallen for whoever, and even though they keep getting hurt and are aware that its not love as true love, they still go after he person and risk being hurt.
The song could also be about a girl who fakes liking them

This song reminds me of Niall Horan and Kristin Klingshirn. I heard a recording from the Bert Show where she speaks of the night she attended their concert. Her story is very similar to the lyrics.

And yeah, I let you use me from the day that we first met
But I'm not done yet, falling for your fool's gold
And I knew then, you turned it on for everyone you met
But I don't regret falling for your fool's gold

Fool's Gold is simply about a boy who fell hard for a girl. The girl took his affections as funny, thought of their relationship as a fling, while the boy thought the complete opposite. The girl treated the boy as a toy, so now the boy is saying how the girl is nothing but an easy shot and he misses her even thought he knows he shouldn't.

I think the song was written from the point of view of the fans. We buy into absolutely anything the boys say or do because we want to show our love and support for them. We use the boys as a distraction from the struggles of reality and see them as hope and peace in our lives. We get lost in their beauty and personality and will basically do anything they ask (aka promote new music, buy albums, tickets, merch, etc.) They always say that they love us and I believe that they do, but in a different way. They love as a whole and not for who we are individually because they just can't get to know us all. They love all we do for them, so when they say they love us, they are kind of thanking us and telling us what we want to hear. We know that they don't really love us in the way that we love them, but we don't care and continue to love them. Every time that they talk to or meet fans, they hug them and tell them that they love them, and they do it for EVERYONE. We are buying into fake love but we don't care. "yeah, I know your love's not real, that's not the way you feel..." This is about how the kind of love that they have for us is not the real love that we have for the boys. We are the fools, and they are the gold. We really just want to be loved by them, even if it's not completely requited in the same way we love them.
