   I think it's about parting ways with someone you have been in love with and you are going to remain seeing that person as Louis explained in the track by track interview of MITAM that it was more personal to him

   To be honest with you I think it is about Break-up sex. If they were talking about the fans why would they say: "Oh, why you're wearing that to walk out my life" You could say they mean their concerts/tours but I don't think that makes much sense. Another thing is the lyrics: "Oh, even though it's over you should stay tonight" Why would the fans be staying the night? And finally, to end my theory the song title says "Love you Goodbye" which is another word people use for sex is making love. PS this is just my interpretation and not to be mean to the boys because I 100% respect them. :)

   I think this is a goodbye song to the fans because it says ¨one more taste of lips just to bring me back to the places we been and the nights we had Because Tif this is it then at least we could end it right¨. I don´t think they really mean the word lips I think it means like they´re telling us that this is their last album before they break up(the hiatus).In a video I watched when they all say one direction will get back together someone said ¨Do you think one direction is going to get back¨ Niall said ¨yeah, we´d be stupid not to¨ This is my theory so please don´t say I´m wrong

   i don't think this song is to the fans. Once louis has spoken about the song in brief. This is clearly not about the relationship we(the fans) and the boys share. This is not a goodbye song in terms of the band because in History there's the line that says "this is not the end, this is not the end, we can make it you know it you know." which means we all together have made so many sweet memories when the boys worked as a band, it's not the end to the band, we can make more memories like this but after a break(the hiatus) and you know it.
   On the other hand Love you goodbye is a final goodbye to someone we shared our heart and soul with(Soulmate). As we can see, this song says maybe we can't that same bond anymore but we can still be friends. It's about goodbye s*x y'all.

   *THIS IS MY OWN PERSONAL THEORY*
   
   i believe this song is a goodbye song to the fans and the lyrics really allute to that.
   
   "It's inevitable everything that's good comes to an end; It's impossible to know if after this we can still be friends, yeah"
   everything good coming to an end refers to the band taking a hiatus and "breaking up".
   knowing if we could still be friends refers to fans being on good terms with the boys and still supporting them after everything.
   
   "I know you're saying you don't wanna hurt me; Well, maybe you should show a little mercy; The way you look I know you didn't come to apologize"
   the boys didn't want us to be upset with them taking a break and they didn't want us to feel lost or alone without them.
   showing mercy can refer to them not wanting the fans to be rude or disrespectful while they took the break.
   the last line refers to the boys not apologizing for the break because they have said multiple times it isn't the end and they may feel no reason to apologize.
   
   "Oh, why you wearing that to walk out of my life?"
   could have been written while the boys were touring. seeing all the fans wearing/ creating merch while knowing they were going to take a break had to have hurt them knowing they were gonna make a lot of people sad.
   
   "Oh, even though it's over you should stay tonight"
   the boys want us to stay by their sides while dealing with this hiatus and they want us to still be active fans (i.e. listen to 1D music, support the boys solo careers).
   
   "If tomorrow you won't be mine; Won't you give it to me one last time?"
   this refers to if the fans decide they are going to move on and listen to other artists they still want us to keep everything that happened with the band in our minds. they want us to give them one last chance before we no longer want to listen/ support them anymore.
   
   "Oh, baby, let me love you goodbye"
   this is basically the boys saying they love us and goodbye until they reunite.
   
   "Unforgettable together, held the whole world in our hands; Unexplainable, a love that only we could understand, yeah"
   "held the whole world in our hands" one direction was one of the biggest bands on the planet. with the fans support we really kinda took over the world. AS WE SHOULD.
   "a love that only we could understand" only directioners and the boys have a special love for each other, a bond that will and could never be broken.
   
   "I know there's nothing I can do to change it; But is it something that can be negotiated?; My heart's already breaking, baby, go on, twist the knife"
   i think the first two lines are basically the fans reactions to the hiatus. directioners were distraught without them. fans wanted to do anything possible, like try and change the boys minds. they didn't want to lose everything.
   i think the last line is the boys reaction to our reaction. the boys couldn't change their minds, the boys were going to take this break even though they were at the top of their game. they were just as upset as we were. they didn't want it to end.
   
   "One more taste of your lips just to bring me back"
   lips could have a hidden meaning because the boys didn't want to make it obvious. this could mean just one more tour, one more meet and greet, one more all nighter, one more album together, one more year being together. they wanted to be reminded of all the good times they had together.
   
   "To the places we've been and the nights we've had"
   to all the stadiums, all the places around the world they went together as a band. all the nights could mean the late nights they stayed up writing albums (a reference to the album title "made in the a.m.").
   
   "Because if this is it then at least we could end it right"
   this could mean that the boys could have had thoughts about not reuniting. they are basically saying if they don't get back together that this song is our goodbye. they ended it by giving us a proper goodbye and not just going incognito.
   
   honestly i think this makes a lot of sense to me and love you goodbye has me crying EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. i hope this made sense LOL
