Hey Ya! Lyrics

My baby don't mess around
Because she loves me so
And this I know for shooo..
Uh, But does she really wanna
But can't stand to see me
Walk out the dooor..
don't try to fight the feelin'
Because the thought alone is killing me right...

His girlfriend doesn't flirt or fool around with others because she loves him - of this, he's certain - he says. But then, he's not really sure. But really just doesn't want to see him leave her and break up.

This is a song about love and a relationship gone lukewarm.
But he doesn't want her to fight the feeling of the love below - sex. Because it's killing him that she might not want to.

He thanks God that his parents could stay together for years after theirs went similarly lukewarm. As they don't know how to stay together for a much shorter time. As they are young.

Oh, you think you've got it... he says she thinks she's got what it takes, but that doesn't cut it when there are no feelings involved. as there are none now.

They get together after being apart but being separate is much sweeter when there are feelings involved as anticipation is there and the memory of the other. It sounds like he says sex is always better, which he perhaps means to imply this also.

It is said that nothing lasts forever and neither do anyone's romantic feelings - so why do people think it does? They are in denial that their love has flown away and their relationship is lukewarm.

He may be saying that the audience doesn't really like or want him, they just want him to entertain them and/or he may mean the same about her and her family. He may have rejection issues and for good reason.

He doesn't want to meet her parents he just wants to get her off sexually and get her in his Cadillac for sex. He's just being honest.

Now he addresses the audience and their capacities as sexual emotional beings that relate to each other as men so cool as to be as cold as ice and women to shake it like a picture from the past. He wants "sugar" or love, from them now as he got from her in the past. In the video the mobs of girls give him great adulation as he shakes his ass (as the drummer said in the video intro).

He is her neighbor as she is the girl next door.
He wants all the girls in the audience to shake it as a sign of their love and acceptance for him - as he wants that. As he reaches for it in the form of the dancing girl before him in the video. Going through the motions. But doesn't touch her.

And gets the momentary adulation of all the world with this greatly fun song that masks a certain sadness and emptiness.

    Hey Ya. Hey you.
