Take It All Away Lyrics

There was a shot in the dark,
I was caught by surprise
There was a hole in my heart,
There were tears in your eyes
And there was nothing to say,
Cause you made up your mind
And so I guess what you meant
When you left was goodbye.

So...

I think this song tells of Judas as he betrays Jesus. As Jesus is betrayed by Judas he feels a mix of shock and love for his follower. The first verse doesn't have much that pertains to Jesus specifically, but the last line "I guess what you meant when you left was goodbye" sounds like when Judas left the last super early and didn't say why only to latter betray Jesus. The chorus talks about being left in a lonely grave and being the one they were dreaming of (the promised messiah) These don't have to be interpreted like that but in the second verse when it tells of a "kiss on the cheek" and it being "easy to hurt and harder to breath" I think it becomes so clear. Judas betrayed Jesus by kissing his cheek and the cross on which Jesus was crucified would have made it impossible to breath as he was stretched out on it and would not have been able to take in air. This may or may not be what Adam intended but I have noticed scripture woven into his songs and this is one in which the Biblical scene stands out to me.

After Owl City's previous album, All Things Bright and Beautiful (2011) sold only 143,000 copies in the United States, Adam Young began working on demo tracks for The Midsummer Station in January 2012.[2] Unlike his previous albums, Young worked with different songwriters and producers for the first time, including Stargate, Emily Wright, and Matthew Thiessen.[2] Young was initially scared of the thought of collaborating with others, "I've never worked with anybody before. I've done everything myself except for mastering. It's a big job for one guy, especially a perfectionist, so I knew I wanted to try to experiment with other people."[2] The song "Dementia", which features Blink 182 singer Mark Hoppus, was mixed by Chris Lord-Age.
