I'm pretty sure this was meant to be a double entendre - a commentary about the short memory of Nixon and his Watergate co-conspirators.

The genius ahead of it's time ''MELT-FACE'' album of PETER GABRRIEL was called a ''political suicide'' by some critics when it was released in 1980. Several of the songs on the album we should remember are about paranoia and xenophobia, especially when the mind is affected by certain drugs. The dual-self struggles to find self-control and solidarity with the mind, body and soul. This song could be about an alien or a foreigner in a foreign land where the people speak a different language and he feels he is not one of them that became afraid and on the run. Trying to find a safe place to rest his body and mind, but unfortunately became paranoid and addicted to certain drugs for hope to ease his pain and paranoia, but to only become a ''acid casualty'' for a while that gave him a temporary lapse of memory. Now, not remembering anything anymore, only seeing the Authority figure or the intruder that is questioning him. And now he is seeing the shapeshifting of his face turned as a ''bird of prey'' on the alien's mind that he believes he's seeing staring at him. Where now the alien is all mixed up and terrified with no memory of anything to show anykind of i.d of who he is. ''REMEMBER'' to many certain drugs like LSD and PCP=seeing the '' face melt'' in certain people that can leave an confusing mark on the psyche to remember.
