This is a very moving song and is one of a series of anti-war songs written by Roger Waters.

this song is about how during the battle of anzio, in which roger waters' father is told that his company must hold the line, while the rest of the force retreats, and the tigers are of course, the german tiger tanks, symbolizing the fear of an infantry group, holding against a german army until they most certainly died.
