Ray LaMontagne: Like Rock & Roll and Radio Meaning
Like Rock & Roll and Radio Lyrics

I agree 100% with the interpretation above. This song makes me feeling a longing that aches like nothing I’ve ever felt before. Hoping many don’t have the same comparison and have been spared the heartache.

Ah, how intimate and close this song feels.
Ray is talking about someone, no matter who, in your life who was once the closest ("Are you still in love with me?") and now, things have gone as far as to make him wonder, "Are we strangers now?"
To mourn a love lost, one has so many ways ahead. Ray's is to just give a glimpse of how it all was and not how it went, and asking the loved one if there is still hope.
This is in more ways than one very similar to James Blunt's "Goodbye My lover" where the singer (as the song title suggests) knows almost all is lost, but reiterates that "I am here for you if you'd only care" and "And I love you, I swear that's true, I can not live without you".
I hope you won't get the shocking feeling that Ray is exactly describing a story of yours because in that case, you, like me, most probably have a history of losing a person you truly loved. I hope you get nothing of this song, for your own good...
