This song is about a young man seeing how he used to act; and what kind of person he was. He begins to hate the person that he used to be and he can’t understand why he went through that repeating cycle of his life; doing everything the ‘immoral’ way and knowing that it was ‘bad’ but still doing it for no apparent reason, except for the fact that he just wanted to. He has became a changed person; but now he is going over why he decided to change in the first place. He is ashamed of that person that he used to be; and he really just wants to be able to forget everything that he did and that whole life style that he had. But he knows that going through all those mistakes is what has made him wise and has transformed him into the person he is today. If none of it had happened then he wouldn’t be as wise and his life would have had a different end result and he wouldn’t know as much as he does now.
‘`This song put into a religious point of view (seeing the band is a CHRISTIAN BAND) could have something to do with redemption and how he is talking about how he is a Christian. He hates his life style in the past; how he never really followed in God but just went through the repetitive life style of going to church and telling everyone how he was a Christian but never actually ‘believing’ or having any ‘faith.’ In The song it says:“Who I am who will take the second chance you gave me” He is now saying that he is going to turn his life around and try to become a better person. He is going to faithfully follow in God now and take a second chance that God has given him to have a good life. But before if given the chance; being the person he was wouldn’t have and he now trying to prove that he is a changed person. -
I don't think it's talking about anyone in particular. I think everyone makes mistakes and they're trying to convey that guilt we all feel inside. We all make mistakes we regret and sometimes isolate ourselves that end up making things work. We all end up wounded at some point, we all end up fed up with ourselves, and we all have some pit of guilt that makes us hate ourselves. And that guilt doesn't go away even when we try to change.

Well for me the song was different than that I listened to the song realizing that I hated myself as a Christian... and now that I realize how fake everyone was I can be happy with who I am now not worrying about the fake and bad decisions I had made before I decided to throw away my religion.

This is one of my fav. Songs, because it really is me. To explain this song, I could just explain what has happened to me lately.
One of my friends is a little bit of a crazy emo chick, and she is, well, doing things she probably shouldn't be. I don't think she cuts, but it rubbed off on me. I started slacking everywhere, stopped seeing my horse, wore WAAAAY too much black and eyeliner, hated my parents, ignored God, thought about cutting, etc. My friend took me to a Christian weekend and it changed me completely. I repented and stuff. And now, I am pretty much who I was before I got so out of whack. Except that I'm always tired, and I don't know why. But who I am hates who I've been right now, too, and I think that is the meaning of the song. The author was doing crazy things like those mentioned above. -
This is one of my favorite Christian band.this song talks about how a guy was a sinner and has now turned his life around to god and he hates his old sinful life.

Whoa...i had no idea...that this was a christian band...not that christian rock isn't cool, but I am more of a punk/rock/ pop person. I think this song is ok, but I like " Must Have Done something Right" . and that song definetely doesn't relate to Jesus...or, maybe that is not how I see it. They say "we should get jerseys because we make a good team but yours would look better than mine because your outta my leage and I know that's its so cliche to tell you that every day I spend with you is the new best day of my life and everyone watchin us just turns away with disgust there's jealousy I know they can see that we've sot it going on"

1.people can't SEE JESUS. How can they turn away in disgust at something they can't even see? I say this guy and girl got into a little PDA. THAT makes more sense.
2. ok, since people can't see, jesus, how can they be jealous? and, um , of something that theyve uh, got going on? YEAH. If someone feels THAT WAY , I don't think it should be about you know the lord and whatnot. So yeah. That song can't be about jesus. Sorry!

It's about looking back on who you used to be...and hating what you were and what you had to come out of to become the better person you are. It's about the repetitive way you live your life, knowing that it's wrong and doing it anyway, just because. And even though you've changed you come to realize that because you are the only one who knows the full extent of who you were and WHY you felt you had to change and it shames you because you know that eventually you'll have to tell someone what happened or it'll eat you up inside. The person you've become is sooo embarrassed, hurt and ashamed of the person you were that they just want to forget about it all...going over all the crap that you wish you could take back...wipe the slate clean. Then you realize you can't...because you've learned from all of your mistakes no matter what they were and became a better person despite who you were and even who you are now.

Ok some people think that this song is just about a person who did something bad. This song is about a person who was a non-Christian and made terrible discisions. Then he turned to Christ and he hates what he used to do.

This is what gives relient k their appeal. Their songs have this great deep meaning, but on the surface all the kids hearing it on the radio can relate to it as silly little "oh I need another chance with him/her" kinda things. For me, this song speaks loads. I used to be agnostic/atheist and I'm going back to christianity kind of. So I like the second chance idea of it all. But relient k is wonderful because they're not so in your face jesus freaks (like too many christian bands are) and some songs are light and happy, not all serious. Unless I just don't get the meaning of them.
