Savior Lyrics

It kills me not to know this, but I've all but just forgotten what the color of her eyes were, and her scars or how she got them

For some reason, I hear a relationship ending in both this song, and in Audience of One, which would contradict both music videos.

Anyway, I find this as a relationship thing because it starts off with the man realizing how far apart he and his woman have become.

"It kills me not to know this, but I've all but just forgotten what the color of her eyes were, and her scars or how she got them. As the telling signs of age rain down a single tear is dropping, through the valleys of an aging face that this world has forgotten."

They're getting older too, and this doesn't help the situation.

"There is no reconsiliation that will put me in my place and there is no time like the present to drink these draining seconds. But seldom do these words ring true when I'm constantly failing you, like walls that we just can't break through until we dissapear."

Nothing he can do can repair their relationship, and they just get older by the minute. The words are words of a break-up, nothing specific, but they're definitely ringing true because he's constantly failing her, and they just can't get through this rough patch.

"So tell me now, if this aint love then how do we get out? Cuz i dont know. Thats when she said I dont hate you boy I just want to save you while there's still something left to save, thats when I told her I love you girl but I'm not the answers for the questions that you still have."

So, they now know that they're not in love, but how should they end it? Because he obviously doesn't know. She clarifies by saying that she doesn't hate him, but they're getting older and he needs to live his life out the way he wants to. He still loves her, but he just is not the person to satisfy what she wants.

"But the day pressed on like crushing weights, for no man does it ever wait. Like memories of dying days that deafen us like hurricanes. Bathed in flames we held the brand, uncurled the fingers in your hand, pressed into the flesh like sand, now do you understand?"

This part, I'm iffy on. So the beginning is more talk about how time keeps going, and they're not getting anywhere. "Bathed in flames" (as in making an end) they held a final decision (once you're branded, it usually stays there) and that's it, it's final.

    Chorus

"One thousand miles away, there's nothing left to say. There's so much left that I don't know. We never had a choice, this world is too much noise, it takes me under. It takes me under once again."

Now they've separated, and they're done with each other. Just because he's separated from her, though, didn't really solve his problems. In the end though, they never really had a choice, it was the only solution, but it still failed him.

    Repeated stuff

    The END!

I don't think it's about a guy sinking into drugs and depression (I probably think that because Rise Against is straight-edge). I think it's about two people struggling to keep something between them alive.

Well, I never submitted before and so I think it's gonna to be not that good. But well.

As always: It's just my opinion. I could be wrong. It's only my way of seeing the story behind this great song.

I think in this lyrics there're excisting three types of stories.
The often disputed girlfriend-verison, the more obvious political version, and the environmental version.

In so many Rise Against songs two or three meanings excist. So why shouldn't it be the same here?

The first version - the girlfriend-version - is easy to be explained.
There is a couple, let's call them Jim and Jane.
Jim left some time ago, because they argued or some shit like that. Now he's looking back at their time together and 'It kills him not to know this but he've all but just forgotten. What the color of her eyes were and her scars or how she got them.' He's begining to forget all the small things and he's very disturbed about that.

He's thinking about their fight and he thinks stuff like that there's reconciliation and that's what he gives him the feeling that he'll drink in these 'draining seconds' because he's failing for her. He's locked behind these walls and realizes that if the walls are gone he and Jane are disapearing.

So he went over to talk again to her.
He knows that there isn't love between them anymore, but he still wants to live his life properly.
And after all they went throught (maybe druges, fights, etc) Jane still doesn't hate him. She just wants him to be save after their time together.
But Jim still loves her, but he's clever enough to know that he isn't that guy that solves every of her problems.
He told her that if time goes by the two will hardly know each other. And that's what he doesn't want.

But it got so far and Jim and Jane lived their lives without each other.
Maybe there're 100,000 miles between them and Jim still got the feeling that there's something that there's something left what he doesn't know. Maybe a feeling for Jane. Maybe just the insecurity.

He came to the conclusion that they never had an other destiny but separating. But this really gets him down.
And both still don't fell mad at eacht other.

    Okay, version #2.
As many of the other reviewers think there's also a very political meaning in these few words.
In the official video there're some animals, ya know.
The elephant is the symbol of the republican party and the polar bear and the rest can mean countrys that are in war to achieve more goals. Even if that hurts them.
    For saying it more shortly.

Version #3 isn't that easy to be explained.
But I think I'm gonna make it.
    So, well.
The speaker in the song is man. He is talking about mother earth.

He starts off by saying that he's almost forgotten about her. Mother nature is hurt. The man - well let's call him Tim - knows he is hurting Nature all the time and alle human beings do.

Tim can't do anything to repair the damage he has caused earth on his one. But there is no time like now to change our ways. To behave better and more environmentally friendly. We have to break down the old ways or we will destroy ourselves and the planet that we live on.

We say we love the earth and everyone pretends to be green. But who of us is it really? We should recycle everything.
If Tim and anyone else continues to destroy the earth he will destroy himself. How it will end up.

So Tim tells the earth or mother nature that he loves her but he's not the solution. He is the problem. Time is passing by. We still hold the old brand/old ways of doing things. We can't let go of our ways. Society is stuck.
And that's how we all end up.
Dead, lying in a place filled up with rubbish and chemistry products, the earth dying quietly under us.

I think Rise Against want in this case to wake people up. Especially because they're straight edge and Peta-supporters.
Maybe it should have similar meaning like Ready to fall.

    Well, that's it.
    Hope you enjoyed.

For me, It's about an inner child screaming their pain to their narcissistic parent.

    It hits all the marks...

When you mature and grow enough to see beyond parental fake help hidden in narcissism.

It sounds to me like a man and woman who used to be in a relationship talk. They both still love each other but know that it can never work. It's been years since they've seen each other.

They talk about what happened. She says she doesn't hate him but she couldn't do the relationship because it was destroying what she loved about him. He says he loves her but he can't answer the questions she has about their future that she wanted, IE marriage kids. This honestly sounds like sober interpretation of a drunken conversation with an ex.

The song is predated by Rise Against's "Hero of War". This is the protagonist's life upon returning home from war.

I think the song is about our planet. The speaker in the song is man. He is talking about mother earth.

He starts off by saying that he's almost forgotten about her. Mother nature is hurt.Tears streaming down valleys that have been forgotten. Man knows he is hurting Nature.

Man can do nothing to repair the damage he has caused earth. But there is no time like now to change our ways. We have to break down the old ways or we will destroy ourselves.

We say we love the earth and everyone pretends to be green. We should recycle everything and what ever cant be recycled she be made into compost or fertilizer. If this aint love then how do we get out . I dont know. If man continues to destroy the earth he will destroy himself. How will it end. Thats when she said i dont hate you but I just want to save while there still something left to save. The video shows a polar bear that was pushed by the elephant. Later the polar bear helped the elephant. This could be the artist attempt to show. The polar bear as nature/an endangered species forgiving the elephant. Forgiving man or perhaps the republican party. So man tells earth that he loves her but he's not the solution. He is the problem. Time is passing us by. We still hold the old brand/old ways of doing things. We cant let go of our ways. Man is stuck.

Rise Against is always writing about environmental issuses and I believe this song is one of those. If you watch the music video all the animals in it our either threatened or endangered. It's about loving those animals and saving them while we still can. At the end it's the animals talking saying "We never had a choice, this world is too much noise, it takes me under"

I think it has something to do with forgiveness. if you have seen the music video. the polar bear gets kinda beat up and feels like an outcast. later he sees the elephant (who was bullying him) limping and lets the him onto the bus. it might also be related to the elephant being the republican symbol and a polar bear being an endangered species.

This song is clearly about a relationship, I realize that most people when interpreting songs are searching for some profound meaning, not here. It's simple: The relationship at hand is dying out, the man is forgetting the things he loves about the girl (the things he knows about her, because how can you truley love someone without knowing what they are or where they come from?) hence the opening lyrics "It kills me not to know this, but I've all but just forgotten, what the color of her eyes were or her scars or how she got them." He's saying I still love you but I'm starting to forget why.. she then says "I don't hate you, boy, I just want to save you, while there's still something left to save." she's saying let's try to make this work while the feelings still there, even if it's feeling with no known cause; he then says "I love you, girl, but I'm not the answer for the questions that you still have." -- I love you, but I'm not what you're looking for, you need someone else who can truely help you reach fulfillment.
    The end. <3

This seems to be interpreted as a couple breaking up. I, however, think that it is about change and friendship.

Let's think about this: One person was really nice at one point. But then they started to change for the worse, and eventually loose all of their original friends.

One friend, however, tries to bring this person's old personality back as a final show of friendship. The person in question, however, doesn't change, but loves the friend for the show of concern.

I watched the making of the music video for it and Tim explains that it is about the republican party, how they get "beaten up" and then the mean people suddenly need help from them.

It starts by him feeling regret for not being able to remember probably his wife but it could be someone else. but then it deals with how fast the world goes back to normal for everyone. But he feels he needs to change and it was the dying wish of said person that he gets his life together. I cant understand the rest
