A Change Is Gonna Come Lyrics

I was born by the river in a little tent
Oh and just like the river I've been running ever since
It's been a long, a long time coming

It's been too hard living but I'm afraid to die

I believe that the songwriter was trying to convey that even though times can be hard, and many people can be mistreated, change will inevitably come. As long as America can come together as one, change will always come. America kicked its people down, hence the line:

“Then I go to my brother
And I say brother help me please
But he winds up knockin' me
    Back down on my knees”

The song also emphasizes that even if times are tough, and the people feel
like they can’t keep going, hope will be there, and that change will come:

There were times when I thought I
    couldn't last for long
But now I think I'm able to carry on
It's been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gone come, oh
    yes it will”

I think the message is that even though times are tough. “ change gonna come”. And that we have to be better, and stand together for equality.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
