    It’s about not believing everything you see.
    Getting in to deep.
    At the same time. Your trying to take the easy road. Not all in. You do all you can to make it seem like it. Lie to yourself. Then time goes by and your stuck tied to teeth and mouth.
    The worst thing is. She warned you at the beginning of it all. She told you exactly who she was. Don’t go down to the waters edge.
    You can’t stomach it. She told you. In a round about way. So she didn’t feel bad about what she was trying to get from you. If you new and didn’t leave. Makes it ok for her to make your life hell and use you as she wants.
    Actually I have no ideas. Just went through a break. I noticed this song playing. Because it played out of order. No shuffle.
    Things like that. Pay attention. The universe is talking to you. She always tells you what is right and what direction you need to be going.
    That might even be a better meaning to the song. What do I know. Didn’t pass 10th grade. Lol

    "Water's Edge" details the story behind a bloated corpse being found in a river or creek; it has been said to be inspired by the 1986 film River's Edge, but this is not well confirmed. Other accounts indicate that the song is based on a book that Jason Ross read while in college at William and Mary. The song's narrator admits that he witnessed a woman being tossed in the water to drown. He recalls seeing her just before a van of people drove up and subdued the woman, but notes that he cannot confess his witnessing the crime out of fear of their power. Musically, "Water's Edge" relies on a soft verse, heavy chorus style. Muted guitar chords and harmonics between verses also offer a delicate side to this dark, aggressive song. During the bridge, the narrator furiously ridicules himself for not intervening with the incident.

    He was a young kid, riding bikes with his friends and he witnessed a girl being kidnapped. He didn’t say anything because he didn’t believe what was happening. Later, sitting in front of the TV watching the news with his parents, he sees the story about a missing girl. THE GIRL HE SAW KIDNAPPED. As kids, we think that we will get in trouble for even witnessing something bad, so he doesn’t say anything. When the news reports that she was “found” dead and had been raped, (familiar places) he knows that he can never tell because he’s feels guilty for not saying something and not trusting his gut.
    I don’t think it’s the singer or anyone in the band, but either a story they heard or movies they’ve seen. Sounds like my experience in witnessing something and not reporting it.

    The song is about being a witness to a murder, either to the act and/or to the disposing of the body, and not coming forward because you are afraid of repercussions from the killers and/or their friends/associates; also leaving the discovery of the body to someone else. The witness feels guilty about the choice to have done nothing to prevent the murder and/or to get justice for the victim and their loved ones, but still remains silent anyway.

    Comments: Unfortunately, this failure to help is an all too common occurence, resulting in many unsolved murders, especially in high-crime areas. Do the right thing, and step up. ~a homicide survivor of a cold case
