Oh, yeah

Hey, how's it going?
Can you meet me down on Adelaide Street?
Can you talk for a moment?
There's no way to say this that easily
And everything I said, I swear I meant it
I need to tell you that this isn't your fault
And I know...

It's about being honest with his gf. Even though the singer loves his gf. He can't love her fully so he breaks up with her.

Since Shawn said he wrote this song for his ex-girlfriend, in my opinion the song describes the situation when he broke up with her. The Adelaide Street is in Toronto, the city where he was born, I think he called her and asked her to meet, then when they were together he started to explain why the had to break up. As he said on an interview in 2016 (Where he was talking about Running Low), when he is in a relationship he wants to give as much as he receives, and he felt he wasn't giving her enough time (Maybe because of Tour). In Honest he gives an explanation to her, he didn't mean to hurt her, but he was sure she deserved more than he could give to her, he says that every part of their relationship was great, amazing and he fell in love with her, he didn't want to let her go but he loved her so much he did it, because Shawn didn't want her to suffer because of his busy and hard life as a celebrity. In the demo version he says "I don't know what I want exactly but I'll slowly kill you if I drag you down this road with me, don't matter that I really love you, at the end the street is black and Adelaide reminds me that I'm just tryna' be honest" and that part gives more sense to the song.

Shawn Mendes is very talented and this song is so sweet because he's explaining to this girl why he's breaking up with her. And it's not because he doesn't love her I think it's because he loves her a lot and wants the best for her so he's letting her go, because in the end he knows its the best for her.

to be honest I can relate to the girl character in this song, I feel like he couldn’t handle the commitment and the stress of a relationship which is understandable if he feels this way he can’t help it. But I feel like he should of let her know in the first place, not lead her on

I feel like this song is about a guy and a girl but the guy is saying that he can’t meet the expectations from the girl. He is saying he wants to be with her but he has to be honest with her by telling her that it would be better if they were apart

They love each other but the guy doesn't know if he can handle this kind of commitment. He's saying she deserves better than him because he can't take the pressure. There is no one else he could love except her.

I feel like Honest is about a guy and a girl who have been seeing each other for a while and the girl is wanting more from the guy aka a relationship and he just can't give that to her ..

Honest is about how even though the truth is hard it is the right thing to do and follow. In a relationship you have to be entirely honest with each other even though it can be hurtful and lead to a break up.
