Thick as Theives Lyrics

Oh-oh oh-oh
Oh-oh oh-oh
Oh-oh oh-oh
Oh-oh oh-oh
Oh-oh oh-oh
Oh-oh oh-oh

Evidently we can't work it out
I guess that courage ain't allowed
Evidently you're not in the mood
And everything I say just bothers you
You built this...

I just wanted to comment on the interpretation that someone had that is saying they believe it mostly the narrators fault for thr issue the couple is having because of the part of the song where he says guilty I may be.

I guess you missed the part in the song where the narrator says you paint a portrait I stumble towards it...

What the narrator is guilty of is believing the portrait the artist painted of himself. He continues (the narrator) to stumble towards it...which is what he is guilty of.

I know this is what the actual meaning of the song is because I have been in a relationship with a diagnosed sociopath.

The minute I heard the words to this song..
Immediately I was taken back to that memory in time.

My ex painted a beautiful portrait of himself.
    So very beautiful.
Too good to be true I told my mom as we became serious.

    Words I live by now.

If it's too good to be true...believe it.

    Today I am still guilty.

I continue to stumble towards that painting...when you fall in love with with beautiful lie...letting go of something that was never there to begun with Isa nightmare I wouldn't wish on anyone

    Great song.

This song is about a couple who are having problems mostly due to the singer's actions(guilty I may be). But he knows that in the end they will get past it and be "thick as theives.
