Oh Sherrie Lyrics

You should've been gone
Knowing how I made you feel
And I should've been gone
After all your words of steel
Oh, I must've been a dreamer
And I must've been someone else
And we should've been over

Oh, Sherrie, our love
Holds on, holds...

Maybe a long distance love affair, and they looked different from they imagined them to look like and be.but still loved them with their all. Yes
and still so loved the other deeply.and sherrie just holds the one she fell in love with for ever more.and on and on and on for all time.
    On and never let go.

Why are there two different endings at the end: 1) now i know you’ll lie you’ll stay 2) now I know just why you stay

They were at a point where their hearts were still connected, but the 'end' was inevitable. Words of steel - harsh words, meant to be hurtful. Knowing how I made you feel - belittle out of anger. This relationship got far too 'familiar' because you either LOVE someone for all they are, and that applies to both - or, knowledge is 'used' against each other, hurtful and angry. When only good sex, good lovin', and hope are the only things left...it's time to part. And it's never easy. I knew this song was leading up to their parting...she outgrew him while he was working an all-in job. He had to move on in order to re-discover himself. And grow. He changed his life before it consumed him. Just in time, and I completely understand it.

This song was about Perry's longtime-girlfriend, Sherrie Swafford. Perry has stated numerous times that although he and Sherrie loved each other, there relationship just wasn't meant to be.
