   I am a christian as well, but when I heard this son, I immediately thought about how you could love someone so much and need them more then you have ever needed anyone else and that you can't live without that person!! When in doubt, watch "A walk to remember". That is the first time I ever heard that song and it was so fitting for the movie!!

   I think this song is completely and 100% about God. Jon Foreman literally inspires me with this! I feel this song is saying that God is always there, and he will NEVER leave. He Picks you up, gives you peace, makes you feel alive, and this song makes you feel that there is always hope if you trust in God. Personally, I feel strongly connected with this song. It makes me feel That when he wrote it, Jon Foreman was feeling the exact same way I feel. It has such a strong meaning, and that's what makes Jon Foreman an amazing artist!

   to my view this is a song that tells us about the love which the narrator(reciter) have for someone and in the process of telling his love he showing how that special someone gonna make you feel fresh,lively and enjoyable at the same time signing that in such a case of delicate love we ourselves get vulnerable without the other persons affection.this is just my opinion other can have some thing totally different but isn't that the thing that makes art unique and beautiful that difference of view.

   I think this song could be interpreted after a break-up. He's learning to do everything again without her. He is ready for a new begining.

   He is waking up, and he's coming out of his depression. He is also realizing that he counted on her to break his fall, but he is learning to do this on his own. He is dying to breathe again.

   Most of their songs are spiritual and this one is no exception. With the chorus being "I'm learning to breathe I'm learning to fall, I'm learning that you and you alone can break my fall." Basically the writers is expressing his dependence on (how not to offend every one here) Providence.
   When I sing and play it, its totally declaring dependency on Christ. Even if you don't believe, the melody is harmonious and just plain sweet. This song is definitely one to learn if you play guitar.

   Christian Rock is just a name. Sure maybe when foreman was writing these songs he meant for them to be religious but what is so great about music is it doesn't matter what the lyrics mean to a single person. a song can mean something different to each individual person and everyone can be right. To me, the importance of this song is saying that our whole lives we will be "learning to breath". we will be learning how to live our lives as we go and it is like that for everone.

   Just because they're a "christian band" doesn't mean this song has to be about god... Although for the band this song seems to be about god and being born again. For me though this song reminds me about my boyfriend and how he saved me from myself and how he believes in me and loves me and how much I love him and need him. He is my fresh beginning my new day. He's who I belong to. This song could be about love for your religion or love devotion for your boyfriend/lover/soulmate..

   Isn't music an art form? Lyrics are poetry; poetry doesn't have one specific meaning, it is intended for interpretation. The importance of the song is not necessarily what it means to the artist who wrote it, but what you get out.

   I would have to agree with the second response... dude I'm sorry man(first response) but if you didn't know switchfoot is a christian band that is on a mainstream lable... and that bein one of there first hits means that they were still on a christian lable... learning to breathe refers to the idea that as a new believer we are so ignorant of everything that is of god somethin that was as easy breathing we must learn again in the case of this song... The song is talking about our redemption and are childhood faith and growing by learning and relying completely on a self sufficent GOD who is Guiding us and helping us learn

    Someone is looking for the meaning of this song and here it is. This song, I think, is about this person who gets in so many disagreements and fights with another person. And they're trying to say that they don't do it out to purposelly hurt the other person, but rather, it's like they're saying, "Hey, I need you to be there for me." Because they're "learning to breathe" and everything.
    
    They had lived their lives being independent and never realizing that they needed anyone but when they find that person they see a whole new world. They never really felt alive until they reached this point in their lives and now they are realizing everything that they had been missing. There it goes, I hope I helped you!
