Marmalade Lyrics

Stretching, Filing,
Against her skin,
Blessed are those,
Who are not kin,
In sin we Breathe,
In sex we tie,
Duct tape her legs,
To the red sky,
Foolsome flesh allowances,
The pansies raided the pantry of,
Gabardine dreams, promiscuous,
Delight,...

Y think it's about incest, something similar to Lie Lie Lie.
Both songs hint that their actions are wrong because they are relatives (or specifically brothers).
And about the violence, maybe it's a way to get even for the sexual tension between the two or a homicide, because in "Lie Lie Lie" the brother wants to kill the sister

    "My baby, my baby
    let me go
And if you love me, you love me
    let me go
Cause I'm your brother, your brother
    Have some pride
And now you love me, you love me
    Then die tonight"

I don’t believe this particular song is about raps but more rather illicit sex that is consensual from both parties.

Though sex is the focus, the images and symbolism used by Tankian are animalistic, such as the fury roadkill.

Another feature to consider is the tile itself. System often used food as titles, Chop Suey and Mushroom cult as examples, which often allude to human consumption of lack of action. In this case marmalade is sweet, the temptation of illicit sex, and made from fruit, the part of a plant that attracts animals, bees for instance.

System’s lyrics often include literary or musical references. This song may allude to Marmalade Lady, which is about sex too. Instead of focusing on the female perspective of sex this song is about both men and women, and how either or any sex can commit adultery and should be held accountable.

The April 27th post hit closest to the mark. Saturn is brought in as a reference to the God and his story, not the planet.

Honestly, if you really think about it, Serj Tankian has very many hidden meanings in his songs. However, I like to think that the quote "I can't deny the Poison Chosen For Tonight" means a woman who he is planning on sleeping with that night. This song might just be a huge compliment to this woman, as a part of saying "This is the best thing ever, and if it all comes to an end right here and now, so be it."

It's about narrow minded focus on self indulgence, a common lack of perception or ability to see their own risky actions as factors that impact their social establishment, quality of life, intellectual growth, environmental stress, oblivious to reality, encased in invisible self righteous camouflage that only they are unable to see through due to a lack of insight, (to thine own self be true) the impulse to achieve instant "gratifuckation" come what may, then sit bewildered at the ensuing disruptions. A wanton indifference to interactive impact or a failure to grasp a sensible ideology, identifying consequences as the results of actions and not the whimsy of a wishy washy higher power, but reality, "you got wet because you went into the water" most humans, "No, No, can't you see the more logical issue, its because God put the water and myself in conflicting proximity, its gods will, it was meant to be, destiny happens, fate won't wait!"

To be honest, I think these are the thoughts of a serial killer psychopath with a fetish...
This supports my theory of a fetish:

    "Custard dreams
    Abusing, musing
    Marmalade flesh
Naked spread am I, am I"

This shows not only his fetish but also a bit of his psychosis:

    "Actors of the tragic phantoms
Extend your legs for great Saturn
Brown table tops scream for cover
At the sight of your new lover"

Seen as, well you know... There are some sick guys who like it when a girl takes a dump on a glass table while they are beneath watching...wenn you think about it, Saturn on a birds perspective looks like a brown ball going through an opening...I mean come on, she is screaming for cover at the sight of the new lover it can't be more obvious...
Yet again, the first part could also be the memories of dead victim's, possibly prostitudes

What makes this guy a killer is how sex is smelted together with violence:

    "Borrowed dreams, hollowed reveries
    Metal pillows, pewter yellows
Furry roadkill, house on the hill
Pouring gravy on her thighs still"

It wouldn't be the first time that serj tankian would have written a song like this and definetly not the last. Just look a the song: lie lie lie
From the album: elect the dead

    Tell me what you think

well i think this song is about all the stuff that matters a lot to you when you are alive like sex, your house, etc... but when you die you realize that you wasted your time on things you dont need *if today I die and cant deny the poison chosen for tonight* so you should just enjoy life

I think that this song is a weird tribute to women by saying that they are a temptation (poison for tonight) and that rape ruin the honour or sex and others love demonstrations like fetishes:

Duct tape her legs(rape) to the red sky(blood, dishonour)

    Gabardine dreams(fetish), promiscuous,
Delight, deny not the flavour.-(fetish does not deny the falvour of love)

This is just a completly different and personal way to interpretate this song,so please think for yourselves.

This sounds like a really grotesque rape scene or maybe a grotesque scene of necrophilia.

This song appeared on the Japanese version of System of a Down and the Strangeland Official Soundtrack.
One of their more violent songs, it refers to a lot of subject matter.
