U-Fig Lyrics

Melt in the sun, melt in the sun!
Who wants to come with me and melt in the sun?
Hide in the sky, hide in the sky!
Who wants to come with me and hide in the sky?

You and me should go outside and...
beat em' beat em' beat em' beat...

Hide in the Sky and Melt in the Sun are references to Icarus (the people), who tragically died after being advised by Daedalus (in this case, President Bush). This is a Greek mythological story paralleled to the current Iraq war.

It's about Bush saying go to war. "Melt in the sun, Melt in the sun." Means go in to Iraq and fight in the hot and sweaty desert or battlefield. "Hide in the Sky" Is Bush in Air Force One when the 9/11 attacks happened. "Come join the Cause." Come fight the war. The rest of the lyrics are pretty apparent if you listen.

I always thought that System took a lot from the hardcore punk scene in reference to their political and social related lyrics being an overall critisicm on society. Back when punk was new in the late 70's and early 80's groups like Bad Religion, DOA, and Dead Kennedys all attacked society through the first person. Meaning they would write a song and in the song they would pose as people they hated and generally allow that person to inadvertantly make fun of themselves-making it a little more effective than just writing a song that says, 'you suck and die.' An example, and early one would be from '79 or '80 with Dead Kennedy's Police Truck, in which they critisized police officers, "Tonight's the night that we got the truck, we're going downtown gunna beat up drunks...We got a black uniform and a silver badge, we're playing cops for real: we're playing cops for pay." that's a lot more effective, in my opinion, than just going up on stage and saying 'fuck the police'. I think System is attacking the Fascioust, Super-Conservative, Neo-Nazi Americans who believe that by serving in the Iraq war they are 'defending america' when they're just 'defending' Oil Company profits.

8U-FIG8008 is the serial number for a spy satellite launched out of Vandenberg AFB in 1998 that is supposedly used to monitor the US, not spy on other nations (hide in the sky).

The rest is hyperbolic lyricism making fun of plastic patriots who support a government that is willing to spy on them in return, puns about the Iraq war, and general stupidity of the average US voter.

The song is about us escaping this planet after we destroy it and going too 'play' in the sky with another planet. The problem is there is no escape and this is going to be our end and it's our fault we belong to satan and we can't escape. The song is him playing and toying with us.

"Hide in the sky, hide in the sky!" means Hide in heaven to me. Like the U.S. are hiding in heaven (the sky), pretending and claiming to be the good guys.

Just to add to previous interpretations, i believe the lyrics "beat'em, beat'em, beat'em... eat'em, eat'em, eat'em..." is a reference to a game released in 1982 for the atari 2600 called "beat'em and eat'em". This shows that they can still have a sense of humour despite the serious message of the song. i believe this reference suggests that most people will believe (or swallow) anyone of higher authority.

(if you've not heard of the game i seriously recommend that you google it).

I think it's about police brutality and mobs. "hide in the sky" and "melt in the sun" refers to people joining the police to harrass people, and not having to worry about being blamed.

I partially agree with the 2nd poster.

And I believe when he says "Hide in the sky" it's referring to death and being in Heaven.

I think it's about the racists in america. When it says "all pathetic flag waving ignorant geeks" its referring to the people waving their rebel flags around. Also when it says "hide in the sky" to me its saying that they are too big of pussies to back up their words.

hmm could it be possible that "hide in the sky" refers to the airforce and dropping their bombs from such great hieghts while they sitll remain "hidden"

This song is all about the americans that just blindly support the US in Iraq and feel they are patriotic about it when they are just being ignorant.

I belive this song is about false patriotism after the attack of 9/11
beacuse he starts out with "melt in the sun ""who wants to come with me and melt in the sun" and all the other things he says like " hide in the sky" and "come join the cause" all refer to following eveyone else. Then he goes on to say "you and me should go out side and beat em" "all pathetic flag waving ignorant geeks and well eat em" those lines are what put me on to that idea

(continuing my series of SoaD vs. Iraq war, see Soldier Side (Intro) for my track listing)

    7. U-Fig - this one is awesome, as many people can't seem to figure out (from what I've read on various message boards and heard in chatrooms). Soldiers get their friends to come into the military and "melt in the sun." I can't seem to find anything for "hide in the sky" other than references to the Air Force, but I like the next part. buddies in the Army should stick together and go outside to beat the prisoners of war, right? just because the captives were waving burning flags, right? that seems like a reason to "come join the cause."
