I've never seen a diamond in the flesh
I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies
And I'm not proud of my address,
In the torn-up town, no post code envy

OK I will try my best. I think the lyrics are self explanatory.

I've never seen a diamond in the flesh
I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies
(To cut your teeth means when you've had your first significant experience). So she's never seen a diamond in real life and her first experience seeing one was on film.)

And I'm not proud of my address, in the torn up town
    No post code envy
(She lives in the poor part of town. no one would envy her for living there or she doesn't have any envy for where people live.)

But every song's like gold teeth, Grey Goose, trippin' in the bathroom
Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room
We don't care, we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams
But everybody's like Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece
Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash

(She is addressing everywhere you go societies obsessed with celebrity lifestyle and how the mainstream music industry is all about the riches and the bling. Ie. Materialism)

We don't care, we aren't caught up in your love affair
(Addressing she doesn't care about all the tabloid gossip we see about celebrity relationships)

    And we'll never be royals
It don't run in our blood
That kind of lux just ain't for us

(Royalty is something you are born into and she/we will never be able to reach that level or wealth or celebrity)

We crave a different of buzz

(Buzz is slang for interest or attention. She doesn't want that kind of attention. She wants to be known for her music, not for her wealth or what she does, or who she dates.

Let me be your ruler, you can call me Queen Bee
(Buzzing associated to Bee's or She wants the same success as the Queen Bee/Beyonce) She wants to dominate the music charts.

And baby I'll rule (I'll rule I'll rule I'll rule...)
    Let me live that fantasy
(She wants to fulfill her dreams of success in the music industry.)

My friends and I we've cracked the code (cracked the code, cracked the code)
(I'm not sure what this means)

We count our dollars on the train to the party
(Counting their money is something frugal people do)
And everyone who knows us, knows us kno-kno-kno-know
That we're fine with this, with this
We didn't come from money, noooo baby

(Anyone who knows here knows she comes from a poor background and she accepts this)

not everybody was meant to become rich and live aperfectllife. HEr and her friends have cracked the code, or figured out, that you don't need money or popularity in order to live a happy life. In fact, most people never get to feel the joy of having a little extra spending money. She also is pretty much making fun of all of today's most famous people for being so materialistic that they don't even realize what is occuring in the world around them.

I believe this song to be about her friends an her not wanting to be typical/mainstream. "My friends and I, we've cracked the code" they discovered the secret to not let society control you. She also sings about how she doesn't come from a high class, and she is singing how she is perfectly happy. She doesn't want to be mainstream and she lists all the things that the singers and rappers of today claim to have or love. That is what I got from the song Royals.

I wanted to do a Electropop song it’s kind of fun music to listen to but my friend is producing the song and the band claps every beat I hear, but the women can sing and also ladies can dressed up as any clothing they wanted, but it’s different than others. But lady antebellum wrote it and Dave is a guitarist and so he wrote the song for me he’s good with guitars, but Hillary is good with singing. And Dave write something with Electropop and country, similar to royals, but sometimes when we have Electropop and country music together, it’ll make a competition and someone had to response.

I think this song is very personal to be in our lives, and to other people to be royalty. The song had been all day, the song came from the British royal family, Queen Elizabeth, and Kate, and William.

    I think it means:
It doesn't mean if you are rich or famous just as long as you love who you are and accept who you are.
I also think on the line when she says I have never seen a diamond in the flesh I think she mean that she has never been rich and she is okay with that.

I think what Lorde means is that she isn't rich like in the verse "I've never seen a diamond in the flesh" means that she's never really had diamond or jewels.

And the line "diamonds on your timepiece jet planes islands tigers on a gold leash we don't care we ain't caught up in your love affair" means that she's not interested in being like other celebrities that have their own islands and stuff. Lorde doesn't care about any of that stuff.

I've never seen a diamond in the flesh
I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies

** The only wedding rings without diamonds, which she hasn't seen in the flesh, are on married men. She enjoys a rendezvous at the movies with committed men essentially avoiding commitment.

And I'm not proud of my address,
    In the torn up town
    No post code envy

** A reason to meet at the movies

But every song's like gold teeth,
Grey Goose, trippin' in the bathroom
    Blood stains, ball gowns,
    Trashing the hotel room
    We don't care,
We're driving Cadillacs in our dreams
    But everybody's like Cristal, Maybach
    Diamonds on your timepiece
    Jet planes, islands,
    Tigers on a gold leash

** She is mocking narcissist artist who brag about their wealth

    We don't care,
We aren't caught up in your love affair

** And she is uninterested in their lives

    And we'll never be royals
It don't run in our blood
That kind of lux just ain't for us
We crave a different of buzz

** They can't see beyond their own world

    Let me be your ruler,
You can call me Queen Bee
    And baby I'll rule
    Let me live that fantasy

** She doesn't want the world, just your half

My friends and I we've cracked the code
We count our dollars on the train to the party
And everyone who knows us knows
That we're fine with this, with this
We didn't come from money, noooo baby

** The code is that happiness doesn't come from money, money is a means to enjoy life

She wants to "rule" meaning be the best at making music nothing more. We're driving Cadillacs in our dreams meaning even in her dreams she lives a simple life when most drive or have the most expensive things. In a biblical sense IF u look at it from that standpoint she calls herself Lorde "Lord" we know the true richness of life is within and not what's in your pockets. Financially rich does not equal to happiness but limits itself to society's interpretation of royalty? But at the same time u can call me queen bee meaning she's on her way up the ruling ladder to success. Let me live that fantasy.....

Lorde is saying she doesnt want to be like every other singer, she wants to be herself. She is also saying she isnt rich but she doesnt care, she just would rather be successful than rich. And lastly, she doesnt want to be caught up in celebrity gossip.
