Run for Your Life Lyrics

Seventeen years by her side
Broke the same bread
Wore the same clothes and we said
We're sisters with nothing between
If one of us falls
The other will soon be following

Both of you fell the same day
You don't know why
But One of you...

I met The Fray the other day and they said the meaning begind this is that the meaning begind this is that things may not always being going your way and sometimes you just need to run for your life to get away from things. And also that there will usually be someone there to help you though the things that you are froming from.

This is how i see it. :)

The first part may literally mean the girl's sister died one day, and at the same time, the girl was so overcome with grief she became weak. The house on fire part may be a metaphor for something that you know you have no other choice but to move on instead of looking back on it. Because you have no choice but to run from a house on fire anyway. Or maybe the girl's sister died in a fire. The holding back of the river may mean a river of tears. After all, i'ts impossible to hold back tears in bad times. "Run for your life" may mean to just keep running no matter what and never look back. It's a message to tell you to never let yourself become so weak that you lose all that you are. "Take all that's true and leave all that's broke behind" may mean just take all the memories worth keeping, and leave the rest, leave the tears, pain, sorrow, regret, anger behind and forget about them.

I may be wrong, but I think EVERY word fits on The Hunger Games trilogy. "seventeen years by her side, broke the same bread, wore the same clothes and you said 'we're sisters with nothing between, if one of us fall, the other will soon be following" means how much Katniss cared about Prim and was close to her. And they literally "broke the same bread". "Both of you fell the same day and you don't know why, but one of you never woke up and you lay your body down on the floor, you're desperate to hear her footsteps again, but this house's on fire and we need to go" talks about the day Katniss volunteered for Prim at the reaping, and Katniss was desperate to see her little sister again, but she needed to go. Or maybe it talks about the day Prim dies, literally "on fire" and Katniss had to go, even if she wish she could see her sister one last time, because there was a war happening. "you don't have to go it alone, go it alone, run for our life, my love, run and you don't give up, with all that you are and all that you want, I will be close behind, run for your life" that's Peeta telling Katniss to run for her life and saying that he will be there right behind her to keep her safe no matter what. "she had a fire inside and that terrified you, you swore that you'd never lose your control, baby let yourself go, cause part of you hides and I know the huger inside of you's strong, you can only hold back the river so long" well, the fire inside couldn't be more perfect, since Katniss is the girl on fire. Also, she swore that she would never let herself go and part of her hided, cause she didn't want people to see how devastated she was and how broken she was. However, she had a strong personality, and the hunger inside of her was strong. She wanted to win so bad, so that she could come back and see Prim again and she hated the Capitol. And with everything happening, she couldn't help but cry, even if she was trying to be strong. "take all that's true, leave all that's burned behind" is because her whole life had been so tragic that she needs to leave it all behind to move on.

I feel like this song is about two sisters who were very close but one day an accident happened. One of them died the other made it out alive and she cant imagine life without her sister. She is unable to accept the fact that her sister is gone and is desperate to have her back. Her house feels like its closing in on her and she can't bear to be in this sad lonely place. She just wants to run away from it all. Her sister was the fierce and outgoing one and she was the quiet and shy one and thinks that she should have died in place of her sister.

I don't think it's about literal sisters. To me, it's about two girls who grew up together and they loved each other for a while, and one of them had a lot of struggles with herself , and she died, or killed herself. And the one that lives missed her. But she also learned from the dead sister's mistakes "She had a fire inside that terrified you." And I think the "You can only hold back the river so long" could refer to the dead sister's tears and how she'd never let herself cry. And then later, the remaining sister sort of ends up on the same road as the first one because she also started to lose herself after the death. "Both of you fell the same day" And the title "Run For Your Life" Could refer to the fact that the first sister ran from her problems, and the second one tried to run from memories of the first one.

This song was rejected from The Hunger Games soundtrack, and to be honest, I think that's ridiculous.
It fits perfectly and it's a great, inspirational song.

I see it as there are two sisters. They are both in an accident. One makes it out. One doesn't. The one that's left alive is suffering through grief for her sister and asking "why? why her? why not me?" She keeps the memories she shares with her sister and holds onto those and moves foward in life, never letting go of those memories.

I hate to break it to you hunger games fans but, it's about twin sisters from Africa, one makes it one doesn't. The village was burned down to the ground. In Africa they have something called Sankofa. Literally it means, your village burns down, you go back, pick up what you can and move on. The part where they say "you dont have to go it alone". It means her fellow villagers are there with her to help her through the loss of her sister. This story comes from slade and King of the band, The Fray, they wrote the song.

http://blogs.westword.com/backbeat/2012/02/the_frays_scars_stories_isaac_slade_and_joe_king_give_a_track-by-track_breakdown.php the writers talk about what it means here. they say they were inspired by this african tradition where you go back to your village if it burns down, look through the rubble, and if you find anything, you take it with you. then they applied that to the story of sisters. one of them dies and it's the story of the survivor. he says to run, but if she can't she can go back and take from the memories and places where she was with her sister, just like the african tradition.

Well, I wrote a fanfiction while listening to this song, and the plot came out something like this.
There are two close friends, they are practically family they're so close. They grew up together. They tell each other they'll always be there for each other and if one falls, the other will follow. Almost like, if one of them died, the other would either die- or die inside.
The second part where it said one of them fell, in the fanfiction, my interpretation was that one of them lost their mind because of a great trauma. So the one friend is now violent, but doesn't know what they're doing. The other doesn't accept the fall for some time and gets hurt because of it. The sane one has to make the decision to leave the other behind and turn them in to an asylum. The other is taken away.
For the third verse, it tells of the 'fire inside that terrified you'. They realize the fire, or violence, had always been inside their friend- and they put it on their shoulders that if they had accepted the fire earlier, they wouldn't have gotten burn like this. But the damage is done.
The chorus with 'run for your life' is basically the fact that you can't hold onto something forever. Things happen and you're never alone when your world is crashing down around you.

let me tell ya what i think
i interpret the song to be a song about two balloons who were one day released into the sky and one balloon wondered away from the other, and eventually landed in a house that was on fire.
The other balloons message for its fellow balloonian was to run run run for your life balloon because your helium is important to the world.. spread the word

Or maybe the meaning's that you should run for your life even if your loved ones have gone...you should live your life because it's too short and you won't have another chance...and never wish to die/never give up death will come uninvited so move on and forget about yesterday, forget about tomorrow...

I think it talks about a girl that dies & the other sisters live, having to move on from a horrible tragedy.

Its about a African word, that i have forgotten! The word means that when an African village is burnt down by tribes, you go back and get everything worth getting, before turning and walking away. 'take all that's true and leave all thats burnt behind'.
