   This song is a straightforward description of psychologist Carl Jung's theory of "synchronicity."
   
   Synchronicty literally means "at the same time." Jung believed that, to a large degree, everything that happens in our lives is caused by dozens, hundreds, maybe millions of seemingly unrelated things happening at the same time.
   
   How did we get where we are in our lives? Was it sheer dumb luck? Was it part of a divine plan? Jung would say it was neither- that it was the result of countless events happening at the same time. Things that don't seem connected, things that may not even seem important.
   
   To use a crude example, you may meet a very important person in your life ONLY because a hundred chance events led that person into your path on a given day.
   
   It's very obvious why THIS song is entitled "Synchronicity." But what about the last song on the album. What does "Synchronicity II" have to do with Jung's concept?
   
   Well, the song is about an ordinary husband and family man who's sick of his life, and who's just had a really bad day. As the song ends, I believe he is just about to snap and do something horrible, like kill his family. (Think of those cliche newspaper headlines, like SUBURBAN FATHER KILLS FAMILY AND SELF; NEIGBORS SAY 'HE WAS A QUIET MAN').
   
   When an ordinary man does something horrible, people ask "Why???" Sting is saying, it wasn't any ONE thing. It was synchronicity. It was a hundred small, routine aggravations and frustrations happening at the same time. On another day, he could have endured them. But today, all those events combined simultaneously to drive him over the edge.
