Ruby Tuesday Lyrics

She would never say where she came from
Yesterday don’t matter if it’s gone
While the sun is bright
Or in the darkest night
No one knows
She comes and goes

Goodbye, ruby tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When you change with every...

This song's about regretting losing someone you loved but could never keep because they were constantly seeking some new thing to fill their lives, a new experience, place, feeling or love. It's basically about accepting that you were in love but it could never last.

It's about Keith Richard's first girlfriend Linda Keith. who was a model, and was addicted to drugs, and the song is about how she never knew what she wanted...

    Keith Richards wrote it.

It started(letting go of Lynda) when she saw hendrix playing in New York, one of the stupid things was giving hendrix KEEFS strat. That started to fester with him ( as it would)but on her return to England, and quickly followed by jimi, one could only imagine KEEFS pissedoffness when onother guy gets honey drops from your hive.!!
    Rest is history.

I feel it's about a girl a man loved, but could never trust because she was never truly honest. When they had the "bedroom talk" it meant everything, but the next day when she went out,it went out the window.

It could be about gays meeting each other in the park. Not knowing each others names. Changing partner every pink (tues)day.

Keith has said he and Brian Jones wrote it about Linda Keith and how she broke Keith's heart

Brian Jones came up with the outline of the song and it was worked up by Keith Richards and Bill Wyman. Mick Jagger wrote the lyrics. If you substitute the word she with he, it is quite obvious that the song is about Brian Jones himself, whose independent life style from the band was an issue with Jagger and manager Oldham. Jagger regarded him as a threat as not only was Brian Jones an exceptional and experimental multi-instrumentalist his good looks made him the sex bomb of the band who attracted all the attention in the media and at live shows. Jagger was jealous of Brian Jones, the founding member of the band and their music genre, and wanted to get rid of him which of course he succeeded in doing three years later but did he have any regrets and miss him?

Keith has admitted it was about Linda and was co-written with Brian Jones, though the credit goes Jagger/Richards. Brian participated in writing more material and gets credit for none of it. Don't know why receiving credit & royalties must have been unimportant to him. His performance on this track really make it the great tune it is. I suppose Andrew Oldham wanted the Stones to have their own "Lennon/McCartney" team. I think Brian and George Harrison had a lot in common!

I was with a prostitute for 2 years - the song depicts her very well. She would never accept hanging a name on her and she was always mysterious about the places she went. I loved her yet she was no ones object. Love how Mick relates Life to Dreams we can lose. So True! Without Dreams we truly are lost in Life. Sad Song, especially if you have lost your Dreams.

The Top Rated comment is justifiably the best. We know it was about Linda Keith, whom Keith truly cared for. It's really weird the crazy things some people come up with!

I think it was about Jagger and the way he felt about life at the time and he just projected that into a song about a girl. That would be consistent with the interviews and public statements he used to make at that time in his life.
Also listen to "Sittin' on a Fence".

Its a love song about a man who suspects that his girlfriend is a prostitute who is hooked on drugs (no one knows, she comes and goes) she never tells him that she is a hooker who uses dope everyday and has slept with hundreds of jons. So he is deeply head over heels in love with her.

This song is about how unconditionally he loved a woman
    (probably a groupie).

This woman (he probably didn't know her name>> Who could hang name on you?) was constantly moving and changing her mind but he would always love her.

It's also about not wasting time, and not giving up dreams.
