The Rolling Stones: Waiting on a Friend Meaning
Song Released: 1981
Waiting on a Friend Lyrics
-
I think it could be interpreted as either being happy with ones self and not needing or looking for a love or the opposite and being unhappy and needing a friend. Either way it has a carefree feel to it and seems effortless.
-
The lyrics see a more mature side of singer Jagger represented. He speaks of setting aside women and vices in favor of making some sense of his life and finding the virtues inherent in true friendship. Yeah, we all need a true friend.
-
For me, it's about true friendship. Check the song meaning at wikipedia. I'm sticking to it too.

to me its a song about more than physical needs, but one of more emotional needs. Mick is tired of girls that just want him for being a rock star (telling tales of men), and is looking for a connection to someone that wants him not because he is the lead singer of the rolling stones, but that he is a person that needs someone to talk to (cry to) and look out for (protect) and vis verca... I think he's looking for someone, not a whore, but someone who will be around for more then one nite (making love and breaking hearts its a game of youth). he wants more... a friend... don't we all.
