   To the above poster, you're ignorant. Not only is this a great patriotic song, it's a song that 99 percent of americans could relate to after 911. I don't know anyone who was just "coping" and didn't want revenge. It has nothing to do with a political stance, or supporting president Bush. It has everything to do with love for your country, and those who fight for it. People can chastize Toby Keith all they want for writting patriotic songs, but the fact is, he writes them for the troops and they appreciate it. He's one of their biggest supporters, and is second to none in USO tours. The soldiers love and appreciate him and that effectivly takes a large dump on your narrow minded, steryotypical liberal opinion.

   Hey idiots who talk shit on Toby Keith for this song....guess what, his inspiration for this song was his father. He wrote this in memory of his dad AND in response to the 9/11 attacks. He is saying that regardless of how you feel about the war, bottom line is 1) Our soldiers are out there fighting for freedom, both for us and for othr nations, and 2) if you screw with the US, we'll step up...kinda like we did to japan in ww2...ww2 was all but won when we entered, and the ONLY reason we did was japan attacked. Toby Keith isn't saying he will be a soldier, but he is thanking them for what they are doing, and warning other countries not to mess with us.

   Toby Keith, like most Americans, understands that he doesn't have to support the war to support our troops that are dying every day so each one of us can have our own opinion and post them publicly here. Yes he may seen like an ignorant redneck but most Americans wanted revenge. He wrote a song about that.

   To all of you other dumbasses, if you listen to anything about Toby Keith, he fully supports our troops by going to the bases in the Middle East to perform his concerts for them to say "thank you". He doesn't do it for the money, he does it because he believes. He says a lot about how a lot of us feel, just that WE have to bend over backwards to be sure NOT to offend anyone - what ever happened to my rights and my feelings? Toby did apologize for getting all caught up in the "Dixie Chicks" debacle - oh and where are the "Chicks" now? Toby is still out there performing, writing and entertaining the troops.    Whiskey Angel is right, and probably hot. She sounds hot.
   Anyway, Toby Keith was talking about 1. His dad, a soldier who sacrificed a LOT for his country, and 2. The American Spirit of protecting our own like a bear with her cubs.
   Anybody that can't get down with those two things should go bury their head in the ground and wait for all the problems in the world to solve themselves.

    I think that Toby Keith did a good job with this song. My dad is in the U.S army. and anonymous you can die. This song represents what my dad and all the soldiers do in the military and they do a good job.

    He didn't support the war in Iraq, but this song would've been written before the invasion of Iraq. Keep in mind that the initial military reaction was the invasion of Afghanistan. You could've support the invasion of Afghanistan, but been against action in Iraq. Secondly, You cannot determine someone's political background by whether or not they think Toby Keith meant what he said in this song. I'd be called a liberal, and I think he was sincere. You can, however, determine someone's political background if they use "liberal" or "conservative" as insults.

    When he means "we'll" he means the soldiers who are fighting. Never did he say he would enlist in the army. This song is to the soldiers who are gonna do just that. And if he's so superficial, then why did you even bother posting? Anyway I think toby keith is a good country man. Any way, yeah it's easy to interpret. This song gave the u.S. Soldiers a boost of confodince to feel stronger about what they're fighting for.

    Country songs are so easy to interpret. They are so superficial it hurts. In this song, written after the tragic events of Sept. 11. An entire nation struggles to deal with and understand what happened. Except for the simple country folk. They want revenge - now. Toby Keith, perhaps the most superficial of all modern country singers, reached out to these simple minds in a way they can understand, "we'll put a boot in their ass, it's the American way." So Toby was full of patriotism that he enlisted to fight "light 'em up like the Fourth of July" - oh wait, he didn't - he wrote a song about and made millions.
