We got cowboys, we got...

On the surface, this song is mostly just about how Toby Keith loves his favorite local bar. Yeah, I know, real meaningful, right? And that might be all this song really IS about.

But, probing deeper under the surface, let's look at the reasons WHY he "love[s] this bar." He loves how there's an interesting mix of people there, from all walks of life. He loves how it's just "come as you are", and you don't have to dress up, put on a costume or mask (in the figurative or the literal sense), or hide who you really are to be accepted there. And, I think, he also loves this bar because it's where he can go and kick back and relax for a bit, and just be himself and have fun.

So there you have it. Maybe it's a simple song, but it's not a bad one. Toby Keith has the right to be himself, and if this song wasn't meant to be more than a song about a favorite bar... well, that seems fine. This song is about not being pretensious or fake, you could argue, and so it isn't either.

To the above poster who brought it up, Keith does not directly say "We have white people, we have straight people, we have christians". He sings about something more important: What these people do with their lives.

Wait, If a song doesn't mention every slight variation in humanity, it's bias? That's completely ridiculous! This song doesn't show bias like that, and that's a poor argument to make in the first place.

For you country high school drop-outs who enjoy the simple lyrics of Mr. Keith's music - ethos: The disposition, character, or fundamental values peculiar to a specific person, people, culture, or movement

Yep, come as you are to be accepted at this good 'ol country bar. Except, that is of course, if you are gay, black, or Muslim. Hmmm...maybe there is more to this song that meets the eye. What other exclusions to this bar can we find that gives us an insight as to Mr. Keith's ethos?

Well, Toby likes ... "my truck, my girlfriend," and this bar. Thats pretty much it. How trite. There is absolutely no substance to this song or Mr Keith.
