   now, today, this long in my journey i can tell certanly that them already know about the big flood hiden that was used to change and tell a different history to us all.. just search.. peace.

   This is one of my favorite Tool songs and there's a simple interpretation for it. Maynard is talking about his old beliefs and how events in his life have proven to him that these beliefs are false and weak, no matter how much he wants them to be true. One of my favorite metaphors is the part where he says "This ground is not the rock I thought it to be." In Christianity, Jesus is often referred to as the "Rock" or the solid ground. His faith in the Christian god isn't as solid as it used to be. The flood of truth, what he sees all around him daily, has washed the solid ground away. We also see in the song that he desperately tries to find the truth, tries to find a new solid ground, but can find none in the end and is washed away in the flood.
   
   This song also makes a lot of sense when approached from an Existentialist point of view. In this way, the flood would be death. We try as hard as we can to find something solid, something real, something that will resist or surpass death. We cling to any scrap of religion that promises an afterlife. We beg and plead to our gods to save us from nothingness, but our gods, our solid rocks, are washed away by the flood, by death, and in this way, we are cleansed from our false beliefs in a very final way. So yeah.

   "Here comes the water."
   Here comes the flood, the 'cleansing' if you will, as used in certain religions.
   
   "All I knew and all I believed
   are crumbling images
   that no longer comfort me."
   The flood, the water, has showed that all of my beliefs are crumbling and irrelevant. The things and beliefs that used to comfort me no longer do so.
   
   "I scramble to reach higher ground,
   some order and sanity,
   or something to comfort me. "
   I scramble to reach higher ground, to get away from the flood, the cleansing, so I can return to my old ways of being comforted by certain beliefs
   
   "So I take what is mine,and hold what is mine,
   suffocate what is mine, and bury what's mine."
   I must take my beliefs, my things that comfort me and hold on to them, or at the same time, suffocate the beliefs, and bury them to get rid of them.
   
   "Soon the water will come
   and claim what is mine.
   I must leave it behind,
   and climb to a new place now."
   Soon the water will come and claim my beliefs(cleanse them). I must leave them behind, and climb to a higher existence, a higher belief.
   
   "This ground is not the rock I thought it to be."
   This ground(existence, belief, humankind) is not what I thought it to be after the flood.
   
   "Thought I was high, and free.
   I thought I was there
   divine destiny. "
   Before the flood, I was comforted, I was above it all, and free, divine.
   
   "I was wrong.
   This changes everything."
   But I was wrong, the flood changed everything.
   
   "The water is rising up on me.
   Thought the sun would come deliver me,
   but the truth has come to punish me instead. "
   I thought the 'sun'(my beliefs) could save me, and get rid of the flood. But the truth(that my beliefs are false) has come to punish me.
   
   "The ground is breaking down right under me.
   Cleanse and purge me
   in the water."
   My beliefs are crumbling below me, I have nothing left to stand on, so finally, cleanse me in the water, in the flood.
