   this song is about the feeling of having to change a part of oneself to be able to get to heaven. troye is feeling this way because he is gay he thinks that what if there is a god and a heaven and because he likes people of the same gender he will not be allowed into this heaven. but if he gets rid of that part of him then maybe he wouldn't want to go to heaven because he isn't himself.
   
   his thoughts are telling him that being gay is a sin and because of it he won't get to heaven. he feels as to that if he could change and not be gay would he still be happy and want to get to heaven?
   
   heaven could also be a metaphor for being happy. he wants to be happy but he can't because of his thoughts telling him he is doing something wrong and all the people around him telling him what a sin it is to be gay. but maybe if he loses that piece of him he might not want to be happy because he isn't himself.

   This song is about when he came out as gay to his parents when he was fifteen (15). Troye thought being gay would not make him get into Heaven. That is why he put if changing the way he loves/what gender he loves sexually which is apart of him, he doesn't want to go to Heaven.

   ITs about gay pride, purposefully released on trumps inaugration day, it shows we are who we are and we shouldnt give a damn if people think we dont deserve heaven (happiness). This is shown as gay people can be seen as 'sinners' its saying who gives one about reaching ' heaven ' if im losing a part of my existence. It can be about fears too. Achieving them without caring about the ripple

   I think this song shows, the feelings and fears people that are gay or lesbian or whatever sexuality face, people don't realize the things we go through and I'm glad Troye Sivan made this song to show how we feel, It shows acceptance, that we should be able to accept ourselves no matter the consequences, I mean at the end of the day we are normal human beings just like everyone else around us and we all lead our own lives, what Sivan says is true If I have to change who I am as a person to be accepted or to get to heaven, then maybe I don't want to be accepted by everyone and I don't want to go to Heaven. I am who I am, and I am glad that I can be happy about it.

   The song is a commentary on how being gay can make one feel. Not wanting to disappoint your parents. How you have to internalize your true feelings and put on a false front for a hope of no one knowing. And the realization that mainstream religion won't accept you unless you can change yourself. And the way it feels for this to be tumbling around in your mind daily.
