This song is about a guy who loves his girlfriend/wife, who is depressed, and thinks that the only way for her to be truly happy is to walk with god. So he takes her for a car ride and kills her and possibly himself. It's a planned act because he keeps saying how he sees it in his dreams

its about the guy having a dream about a man and a woman commiting suicide by ramming a car into a tree {the flames grew as high as trees} just so they could hurry up and see God {now you can walk hand and hand with Him} they guys nervous gripping the steering wheel till his knuckles turn white and thinking that there's no goin back tonight so he kisses his wife one last time. "around the turn where the cross will cast your shadow" this means there tombstone" the people will all gather" funeral, "to remember such a day where the flames grew as high as trees". so there you go!
