Tupelo Honey Lyrics

You can take all the tea in China,
Put it in a big brown bag for me.
Sail around the seven oceans,
Drop it in the bottom of the deep blue sea.
She's as sweet as tupelo honey.
She's an angel of the first degree.
She's as sweet as tupelo...

To me this is a song about the sweetness of freedom. Comparing it to the sweetness of the best honey. Freedom from slavery and racism as well as freedom from the tyranny of foreign and domestic governments both here and abroad.

She is Liberty, the sweetest thing. The revolution was started by men of vision, now carved in granite. The tea they dumped was the symbol of them escaping the yoke of tyranny. Now that we have tasted freedom, we can not stop till all are free.

I always thought it was a love song. Tonight I listened again after years "she" is freedom.

For my money freedom here is freedom from the bondage of slavery. That is how it feels to me after tonight. Before I really enjoyed this song, but as a love song to his honey. I think I like it even more the way I see it now.

Tupelo honey is the most rare and prized of honeys.
She's as sweet as Tupelo honey. She is this nation of the United States. Of course prior to the revolution she wasn't yet the USA.
You can take all the tea in China, put it in a big brown bag for me.
International trade is desirable but the rebels decided to revolt against the British and dump the tea in the Boston harbor.
A revolution was born and the road to freedom foraged out. So the men could see a way to freedom and they would not be stopped.
