Seether Lyrics

Seether is neither loose nor tight.
Seether is neither black nor white.
I try to keep her on a short leash.
I try to calm her down.
I try to ram her into the ground, yeah.
Can't fight the seether [x3]
I can't see her till I'm foaming at the...

As with all great songs, interpretation is up to the listener, and everyone can vicariously interpret it how ever it makes sense to them. This song is more than likely about a woman's alter ego and whoever wrote the lyrics is a genius. The first two lines tell us about the alter ego, since the third line talks about keeping her on a short leash, its about a dog (not a cat) the inner female dog, or the alter ego that needs to be calmed down. Also, a dog foams at the mouth (not a cat) but she can't see the alter ego coming out until she has been 'foaming at the mouth.' Lines in the second verse follow the same pattern, the first two talk about the alter ego, the second two talk about trying to control the alter ego. The alter ego isn't 'loose nor tight, black nor white, big nor small, but she is at the center of it all.' So the alter ego is a woman's defense mechanism, like a dog that is a fear biter, and the woman doesn't even recognize the alter ego until she goes crazy and wrecks havoc. Under normal circumstances the woman's ego is like a cat (video) but when her anxiety level goes up, the 'seether' or the alter ego comes out to defend the ego. Once this happens, its too late, the damage is done, which is why the woman is trying to maintain control of the snarl tooth 'seether' so she stops lashing out at people.

    HERE IS MY ANALYSIS:

Seether is the instinct (rage, violence, craving/lust, sexuality) of our inner beast

    definition of seether: boiling pot

video beginning: cat attacks another (dominance, violence in the animal kingdom)

I try to calm her down: repressed anger or violence

cant't fight it: it comes out once in a while

can't see her: inside and hidden until it comes out
till I'm foaming at the mouth: when anger takes over (looking in the mirror)

Urban Dictionary: foaming at the mouth
    https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=foaming%20at%20the%20mouth
1.drooling 2.spit bubbles that appear foam-like, as in one has rabies 3.craving.

the center of it all: animal beast inside humans

lovely daughter, not born like other girls: female behaviour considered marginal

snarl tooth seether: sign of aggression and dominance in canines

video ending: broken doll (damage) + calmly eating ice cream after release of excess energy (sex)

Conclusion: girls need to blow off steam once in a while, to release instinctual behaviors of aggression, sex, of other animal instincts... (motherhood)

Seether is straight up annoying. I can fight the seether, just turn it off. Mute works too. Even skip will do. Seether zero-Dustin won.

So the songs lyrics can mean different things to the listener. Even the song writer may not fully understand the unconscious meanings of her art.

Seether has a ton of sexual innuendo in it. “Neither loose nor tight” (referring to the vagina), “neither big nor small” (referring to the penis.)

“Rock it in my cradle” (masterbation .) “cram it back into my mouth” (oral sex)

Can’t see it coming (lust comes out of surprising stimuli) “not born like other girls” “what a lovely daughter” all lead toward unique sexual identity.

Whether she knew it or not, lust and sexual energy is a huge part of the impulse behind these lyrics.

Surprised about all the theories out there 20yrs after she did a talk show explaining it. When she was a child she would get out of controll angry saying evil thing's to friends and family, it was something she couldn't controll and referred to it as a different person, she called it Seether.

I had a good friend who attended Macalester College in Minnesota with one of the female leads from the band. His understanding was that a "seether" is when a person administers oral sex to a woman, and at the height of climax, bites into her clitoris, causing her both intense pain and intense pleasure. So the seether is a type of orgasm, almost akin to a raging possessed spirit emerging from the woman during this painful climax ("Foaming at the mouth"). That was his take, anyway. I have no idea exactly where he learned that.

Either PMS or a woman’s anger management. Uncontrollable anger that’s happening so abruptly that she literally is foaming at the mouth and spitting profanity. she can’t control her inhibition because she out of control with rage or lust (or both).

This is a cover if a veruca salt song but I think the meaning refers to someone's anger management issues and inability to control anger until they are literally or metaphorically foaming at the mouth. This anger is indescribable yet difficult to control or contain, or "fight."
