St. John Lyrics

This night is alive with the smell of insane
Its reaching for me and its calling my name
I beg for silence to drown out their weep
How did this asylum become where I sleep

So ashamed of waking
All my life you failed to keep me safe

If you hate this song so much, then why did you search it? Or did you come on here, to this particular band and song, by accident? Also, no one cares whether you like them or not. So why don't you shut the fuck up and stop bothering other people with your crap.

St. John is a mental institution in Ireland (? I think, I know it's not in the u.s)
So maybe one of the members was institutionalized or someone close to them was. It's about mental illness for sure

"St John's wort is a herbal medicine that is used to treat symptoms of mental health problems."

I think that the music, as already said here, is about mental disorders and someone being institutionalized and does not accept his or her condition.
The quote above may explain the title of the music.

I think it's about a person who was obsessed with drugs maybe.

I agree that it's about mental disorders, probably using asylums as a metaphor.

From the lyrics of this song, it sounds like she's in some sort of mental institution and she's begging to get out. I get my theory from the three lyrics, "how did this asylum become where I sleep", "in this institution for you now I pray", and "locked up tight from the world outside me". I don't know if the song is meant to be that literal, or if it's just a metaphor of some kind, but that seems like the most likely explanation.
