Mind over matter

Does it matter to any of us?

Don't change the subject

I'm heavy on your love

I missed that train, New York city, it rains

Fly to east L.A. in big jet planes

You know you're on my mind

And if the world don't...

Well this is my personal interpretation to this song. I also think that there isn't ONE specific interpretation for songs since they tell so much and everyone is keeping it in differently.
The song "Mind over Matter" from Young the Giant is (for me) about a man who just broke up with ,for him, the love of his life. He is doing trips to different areas (but I will come to that later specific) and tries to forget her but it is just not working out. So let's start with the analysis of the lyrics.

    "Mind over matter
Does it matter to any of us?
    Don't change the subject
    I'm heavy on your love"

He is memorising the break up situation. He kind of wants to fix things ,which go terribly wrong in their relationship, with her. But at the same time he is asking himself if there is even something to fix and if she wants this relationship still as well. She kind of shows him that she don't think this relationship is getting fixed but he can't let her go.

"I missed that train, New York city - it rains!
Fly to east L.A. in big jet planes
You know you're on my mind"

He starts his travel and missed his train. He always associates the places he travels to with weather. This time rain, which is always associated as something sad, as if the clouds would cry.
He thinks about her all the time.

"And if the world don't break
    I'll be shakin' it
'Cause I'm a young man after all"

His own little world is breaking down because she is gone and he can't and won't hold his feelings back.

    "And when the seasons change
    Will you stand by me?
'Cause I'm a young man built to fall"

He is talking about seasons, it maybe could be spring or autumn since it rains and as I already wrote rain is recognized as something sad. He asks if she would be there at the seasons change what would be into the summer (so the greatness) or into the winter (what is even more cold and to be sticked together). He again shows his feelings openly.

    "Mind over matter,
I'm in tatters thinkin' about her
    Taste my disaster
    It's heavy on my tongue"

He continues traveling. I consider the next lines as either a kind of 'one night stand' or a memorable situation between the couple but when they already where broke and could literally taste that when they were kissing.

    "All the lights aglow
    Tokyo - snows
    Go to watch the show
    Curtain's closed!
    I'm watching you this time"

He continues traveling and founds himself in Tokyo (where apparently the season changed into winter, coldness) he is still alone and he slowly gets that everything is over so basically the "curtains closed" for his relationship but she is still on his mind.

That's it. I wanna say again that this is my personal interpretation. You can leave comments what you think about it. I would be extremely interested!
